My boyfriend took his NCLEX-RN yeasterday and looked on the state board license exam site and his name was not listed,Does that mean he failed? we are hanging on because a lady in his class license number was not posted for 5 days after she took the test, also all the questions he had kept getting harder. Any thoughts on if he passed any feedback would be great! ANXIOUS!!!!

You never know....it might take a couple of days before he's listed on the state board.

Does the state in which your boyfriend lives participate in the 48-hour quick results option? Not all states participate. In addition, if he barely took the NCLEX yesterday, then he has not waited a full 48 hours before checking his results. He is jumping the gun and checking the BON's website after 24 hours, which might not do any good.

Tell him to check the website tomorrow.

It could take a couple of days, a couple of weeks, a couple of months, or there could be a delay due to some problem. Depends upon the state and how they handle things and what their workload is. Have him look on the state BRN website to find out the standard wait time. If he has not received his official results in the stated time frame, he should contact the board to see if there is a problem. Good luck to him.

For me, I took some old ATI questions from 2007 and Lippincott/Billings CD 8th ed. Some of the questions there were identical to the nclex exam I just took several days ago. The tests are not getting harder. In my opinion, the medical stuff such as diseases dx are not too far different now than 3-5 years ago. The dx equipments are not that much different within the last 5 years. The board members who designed the questions have not left the company within the last 5 years. They still have the same brain. So, the things on the exam may be tricky with lots of traps but they are not that much different. Learn the traps/distractors and this strategy will help you to recognize them when you see them. For instance, if you know there is a pot hole on the part of the road you drive each day, you'll avoid it. If you know about the different types of traps, you'll recognize it and will avoid it next time. That next time is when you take the real nclex exam.

You know what, from the little experience that I have had in nursing so far, the little traps I see in the practice questions and real nclex exam I took -- they are the mistakes that a prudent nurse could possibly make in real life. I am glad they were able to gather all of these potentially fatal mistakes in real life and test us on them. Helps us to be meticulous and prudent in our practices later on.

For example, before doing a CTscan you want to find out if your patient is allergic to shellfish or takes metformin. Fatal consequences. So knowing this theory, no matter what kind of traps they lay out for you, you still would recognize the answer. They could trick you by saying find out if they have strapnol or had a recent prosthesis -- that would be the wrong answer. Another answer selection is they are taking ASA. The correct answer would be the one about someone saying they develop hives when they went out to a Chinese restaurant. Sounds so far off from the truth but if this were the only best answer, then that's the answer. You're probably thinking why would you care if they go to a Chinese restaurant. The patient could have gone to the mall before they came in for their test procedure. If none of the other answers fit, then this has to be the one!!
