Graduation announcements/invitation etiquette

Mine are a combination of announcement and invitation and I'm feeling weird about sending them to people that I know won't be able to come. Yet, I want to shout from the rooftops my achievement of getting a BSN...it took me 5 years, and I began with two kids under the age of 2

Do people look at invites as a way to squeeze out monetary gifts? I don't know what the etiquette is here...

Hi. I solved the problem by creating postcard "Just wanted to let you know..." type announcements. I sent them to friends, people I don't see very often, former employers, etc. I didn't say the time or place (just the month), so they knew it was just an FYI.

One I sent to a former employer actually turned into a job lead! I don't think anyone felt obligated. I just received some nice congrats cards.

Hope this helps!

there are many benefits of sending out graduation announcements. Whether people see it as a way of soliciting items is left entirely to them. Well it is your graduation, it is an exceptional accomplishment as you put so you must announce it.

Like the poster above me said, networking is a good reason to send out graduation announcements and it is just one of many reasons.
