I have been attending nursing school for 9 months now. We started in a class of 39. We are currently at 23 students remaining. Slowly but surely those who could not handle the stress or the rules have fallen by the wayside. There are those who complain and whine at every turn. Some of the students complain at how the instructors are too strict, how much homework we have, how early we have to be at the hospital, how long we have to remain at school, how they aren't told exactly what to study for the tests, and so on. Can you believe it? HOw ridiculous for those who are trying to get into the profession of nursing to be complaining about how hard it is. What did they expect? Did they think this would be easy? Did they think that only a half-hearted attempt at studying would garner them a nursing license to take care of the health and welfare of others? Did they really think that they could skate by without having to work so hard? I am constantly amazed that there are those who just want to give their minimum and still receive the maximum. Who do they think they are kidding? THEMSELVES ONLY! I wish that nursing school would include a lesson taught in taking themselves and the profession seriously. Then, the rest of us wouldn't have to put up with all the whining constantly.

It's amazing, isn't it? And then, you have the students that stand around and jabberjaw about everyone else and how much better they are. How they do what they are told, follow the rules, get pats on the head from the teachers. My sister was like that. A real brown noser. She still didn't learn everything she was supposed to learn and a lot of times the lessons went over her head. But the teachers liked her because she didn't give them any trouble.

Me, personally, I minded my own business.

Just wait until you get out into the work force. Some people never change. Somehow the whiners and the brown nosers still get by. It used to drive me nuts; now I just let it go and do my thing.

You know what they say, "It takes all kinds...." Well, I've found that no matter where I work, what profession I work in, or where I am going to school, you always have those that whine. I personally try to keep to myself at school. I'm not saying I don't complain, but mostly I do that on here in the form of a vent or else my poor hubby will sit there and listen to it. I just don't think that you should make that kind of spectacle of yourself at school.

From my personal experience only the answer is no. They fail semesters and then because they made teachers and directors life hell they are not offered the choice to repeat and dismissed from the program

Attitude is king. Besides why complain about things you can't change?

Well I didn't ay that all people that didn't make it are whiners more most whiners didn't make the cut.

I've seen alot of good students stress themselves into an F unfortunately.

I'm sorry to hear that... Do you have the opportunity/drive to repeat 2nd semester?

happilymarried - the drive? LOL...boy oh boy. I have so much drive enough for 5 RN students 'n more. I petitioned, but it was denied. My mentalhealth counselor & I are going to meet on Monday & she is going to call the School of Nursing and talk to them to get me back in.

Well, I know a lot of whiners that made it through med school. . .one of them works with me and I had to tell him to knock it off today :)

Unfortunately there seems to be a lot of whiners in nursing school. We had one in our micro class that would show up at least 15-20 minutes late to every class or would just skip class completely. She missed somewhere around 6-7 classes in a 16 week course. Sometimes she would would come to class (late of course) and then only stay for 30 mins and then leave right in the middle of lecture. When asked by other classmates why she was never in class she stated "I am a newlywed and need to spend time with my husband". She would start literally crying after taking about every other test because she knew that she failed it. Then it came time to turn in our research paper. The teacher had the due date on the syllibus and it also said could turn in ahead of time, several times in class she mentioned due date and could turn it in at anytime up to due date. Well guess who didn't come to class that day. The next class (after due date) she waltzes in and hands her research paper to the teacher. The teacher was like, I cannot accept this it is past the due date and I told everybody that I would not accept any papers past the due date. The student got so mad, when the teacher left the room she whined and complained about how this wasn't fair to her and the teacher should accept her paper. Come to find out her mother was friends with the head of the nursing dept at our school. She had her mother call the head of the dept and got the teacher to accept her paper. Everybody else in the class was hot!!!! The teacher had to do what the nursing head wanted.

I'm pushing 49 years old and unfortunately have dealt with whiners and complainers for many years in various aspects of life. What miserable people. What really took me back though was when I started pre-reqs last semester and so many in the classes whine and complain about the work....would actually ask "do I REALLY have to turn that in?" Uh...no, of course not...and the professor doesn't have to give you a grade either. Watched it happen again and again in my English class.
