just wondering if this is a common occurance around anyone else. i work in a hospital that the LPNs get $9.30/hr and thirty miles away, the nursing home pay $17/hr. is this normal??? i live smack dab in the middle of the 2 towns and it really isn't a no brainer on which way i will go after i get my license (my husband is currently unemploy due to cutbacks, so the more money the better), although i do like working in the hosp.

l'm in Australia not sure about the difference in pay, at the moment l work in a nursing home, you can get plenty of shifts, l'm even knocking back work.

I believe in general the Nursing Homes pay rate is higher than the Hospital. I don't know why. In my area (Tampa, FL) I have seen the rate of pay as low as $10.00 / hr up to $25.00 for an LPN. All depends on specialty, and years of experience.

It's fairly normal to have a discrepancy here too in Florida. Nursing home LPNs make much more than hospital LPNs. I'm not sure what the difference is though.

Same here. The staffing agencies offer about $21 to go out to a hospital, whereas they offer about $25 to go out to a nursing home. Maybe the patient load/charge nurse duties make a big difference. Not sure.

I know that around here, most nursing homes have unions, and hospitals dont. Therefore, higher wages in nursing homes. Ours actually has a very low turnover rate for employees in all departments too which is nice. I make close to 20$ an hour and if I worked at the hospital a block away, I would be very lucky to see 10$ per hour.

In my neck of the woods, the hospitals pay more than the nursing homes. Especially after adding night/weekend differential. The benes seem to be better too. On the down side to that, the hospitals here(at least mine) are not hiring additional LPN's.

In my area of florida, nursing homes pay more. some pay 5.00 shift differential for working nites. its not uncommon for an lpn to make 20.00 per hr

Indiana nursing homes start new grads at about $14 per/hr. and do not include any prior experience as a Nurse tech/PCA/CNA. I am looking into a hospital that with my accrued time as a CNA I will make more per hour at a hospital than in the nursing homes. I hope I get this job:)!

central AR, nursing homes pay new grads 14-17, hospitals 10-11 to start

I live in central Mississippi in a small town.Hospital Lpn's start @ around $10..but Nursing homes start @ $15-17 depending on experience.I worked a few nights prn for the NH and I can see why the pay is more..responsible for 55-60 patients, meds, feedings, ect..was TOO overwhelming to me. 3 floors of this size with 1 LPN per floor..no RN even in the building from 11p-7a...just someone on call.Don't think I'll ever be ready for THAT much responsibilty, so I'm sticking with my hospital job for my sanity..lol

In NC the rate for an LPN in a hospital is around 12.00-14.00 per hour depending on the area. Nursing homes is typically between 14.00-17.00. Both places have good shift diffs. The work in a nursing home is typically harder because of the patient load.
