huge pay difference

just wondering if this is a common occurance around anyone else. i work in a hospital that the LPNs get $9.30/hr and thirty miles away, the nursing home pay $17/hr. is this normal??? i live smack dab in the middle of the 2 towns and it really isn't a no brainer on which way i will go after i get my license (my husband is currently unemploy due to cutbacks, so the more money the better), although i do like working in the hosp. :confused: :p

I'm not sure about everywhere, but here, nursing homes pay LPNs better because of the high turnover rate of employees. People seem to get burned out a lot faster in nursing homes because it is pretty much the same thing everyday.

LPNs in Southern Illinois make $9.00-$11.00 in a hospital (more through agency) and about $12.00-$15.00 in nursing homes.

LPN's have been fazed out, for the most part, in hospitals around here. The ones that remain do make $3 or 4 more than those in nursing homes, though.

I am a CNA in pinellas county starting lpn school in a few weeks. So far from the lpns I know they have told me is that they start from $17 to $21 an hour. I am assuming lpn's have more responsibility at a nursing home than at a hospital, but I don't know any lpns that work in a hospital setting.
