Day 2 was better, but as expected, long! Left the house at 7:30 this morning and just walked in at 10 PM.

Lab / Clinical skills looks like it will be cool. Heehee, those mannequins are funny lookin. They're all lying in their hospital beds partially covered with blankets, just like real patients, and each time I walked in the room from break (it was a lecture day not hands-on day) they kept catching me off-guard out of the corner of my eye. I'd think for a millisecond there are PEOPLE in those beds... and they don't look well! LMAO There's a row of 5 or so little hospital 'rooms' separated by drapes, and each room has a bed with a mannequin in it.

Big long break between that class and pharmacology, which, so far, doesn't seem as horrid as I'd expected. Not that it won't be hard, but I like the teacher and he seems so relaxed that a lot of the stress is reduced.

Still frustrated by the TV classes. Find myself getting cranky when I can't hear what someone in another location is saying, whether it's because they forget to key the microphone or just a bad connection I'm not sure. I'm sure I'll get used to it. I even asked a question on the mic tonight (the instructor is in another town). Impressive, huh! LOL

Got to know a pretty good portion of my classmates today, think I'll target some of the others tomorrow. With only 19 of us I'm feeling eager to learn everyone's names.

I'm way excited by and for this program. But I'm also dog tired so I'm headed to bed, and back at it again tomorrow bright and early. G'nite all.

I know what you mean about the mannequins . . . when I interviewed at the program I hope to be acccepted into, they took me on a tour through the labs and I saw that same kind of set up, looked just like an emergency ward: a row of beds along the wall, each with a slightly different mannequin tucked in, and even a couple of those cage-like cribs with baby mannequins. Pretty creepy walking into that room with the lights out, then seeing them all lined up! The director told me they like to dress them all up for each holiday!

Glad to hear you participated in the tele-class! I've never had that kind of a format in school; I'd think it would take some getting used to.

Why did it take you so long to get home? Just curious. I found that if I kept track of my time in my day planner, it helped me. For instance....class 0830-1130....lunch 1130-1230....study1230-1300...break 1330-1345.....study 1345-1445, etc. You'll find that it will help make your day much more manageable. Hope this helps.

essarge, I live an hour from school, and have no desire to move. I'm firmly entrenched where I live for multiple reasons. I have an electronic brain which details my schedule (among other things) to the nanosecond, lol. It's technically a Handspring Treo, but I call it my brain.

I'm really a very organized person, in fact I just got done designing and printing a 'master assignment sheet' which lists all assignments and tests for each of the 6 classes our group has this semester. I'll share copies with all my classmates, just like I did with the schedule, personalized for the Tuesday or Thursday clinical groups (because our schedule is a MESS this semester, and very confusing unless laid out in color on a spreadsheet).

Some call me anal, lol. Hopefully in a NICE way, though.

The big long day is due to a 3-4 hour break between classes once a week. Living so far away, it's not cost effective for me to come all the way home between classes so I stay and study. My choice, it just makes for a REALLY long day.

Well I'm starting to really enjoy the program. I'm seeing how with a little organizational tweaking on my end (the spreadsheets) it will all come together. I got to know the rest of the 'gang' today, and got pictures of everyone along with contact information so we can have our own little class 'phonebook'. Being such a small class (19) I imagine we'll get very close, and we've got a great team going. YAAAAAY, us! :chuckle

I do that too. I have to force myself to study and driving home & then going back to class is not an option when I live 45 minutes from school. I really wish I could move but as a student I cant afford it so I'm just sticking it out with my family (who are sometimes VERY frustrating). Having a break really helps me to study though :)

Nessa and NurseWeasel, I feel your pain. I live 45 minutes from my school too, and with 8 am classes, I'm having to train my little used-to-sleeping-till-10 body to get up while its still dark. The advantage I have is that my boyfriend lives in the same town as my school is, so I have somewhere to go between classes on Tues and Thurs. Also, my aunt and uncle live here, so I can stay with them the night before clinicals so I don't have to get up at 4 am just to get to the hospital on time! Praise God for that!

Just wanted to let yall know that I'm in the same boat and it's tough, but we can do it! I'm pulling for yall!

Hehe NurseChic, Im a night prson too (well stay up til 1 get up at 10) so next semester my classes start at 8 whcih isnt too bad, but clinicals start at 6;45 am!!AHHH and some of the clinicals are 1 hour and 15 minutes from my house eek! If I cant stay withanyone during my clinical days I will have to get up at 4am . Oh dear!

Well, just don't call and wake me up, Nessa. heehee
