Recruitment at clinicals?

Yesterday was our next-to-last clinical day of the semester. At the end of the day, a nurse recruiter brought us students some goodies and gave us a little talk about how much she and the hospital appreciated us students and how XYZ Hospital is a great place to work and here's why, put your app in now for a NA position and start your career with us, etc. Is this typical for hospitals to seek out students like this? It was not a hard-sell presentation or anything like that, just a very casual oh-by-the-way kind of thing. I enjoyed the free food, and, as a matter of fact, I had just submitted my app to them. Have you ever had this experience at clinicals? I'm wondering if every facility will do this kind of thing?

when i was in nursing school evey hospital we had clinicals at, we got the run down of applying and all that. its not uncommon....

makes you feel pretty valuable doesnt it??

:)

And recruiters also visit our college;)

I think I want a job as a RECRUITER! Just think: socializing, food, driving around to different sites (schools, job fairs, conferences), telling everyone how GREAT life is with your company. All on the company's tab. :D

I don't think it's uncommon. Most hospitals drop subtle or not so subtle hints that they want students to work there.

It happened this last time we had clinical at a local hospital. Unfortunately, I had tried for six months prior to get a job and given the runaround constantly. Needless to say, their solicitations of employment at clinical didn't make a big impression on me.

like marie, they visist our campus. they bring goodies and present the "talk".

I think it's pretty standard actually. Heck, we even had a whole clinical day where we went down to Children's Hospital in LA and they gave us a recruiting pitch....Nice hospital, but Peds isn't my bag...:p

I got a fairly hard-sell pitch my very first clinical day during my very first semester in nursing school. They went on and on about how good we BSN's were and stroked us and our school. I guess they needed to because the hospital and unit really sucked.

Several recruiters also came to our school.

the hospitals here are recruiting hard. bringing us lunch at school as long as we sit through their sales pitch. most everyone gets offers while at the clinical sites.

A local hospital just brought lunch, and about 10 of their department managers, to our college class to recruit. It was pretty nice, the dept managers were there to answer questions and they brought application packets for us to take home.
