Hi, I'm new to this forum. Has anyone gone through EC and received their RN?

Any problems? Any advantages? Do you know what states besides California don't except a degree from EC? I just started in January; and now I'm having doubts.

If your state accepts EC go for it. I graduated at 46. The difference in my job and life has been incredible. It's difficult at first to keep yourself motivated. Try this site: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rnstudygroup/ I don't know if I could have done it w/o this group to keep me motivated. Good Luck, don't give up so soon.

I finished in December and got a job in first choice of specialty (NICU) and life has been great. It's been an, umm, interesting transition from student to nurse, but that is true of my three fellow interns as well and they all went to traditional ADN or BSN programs.

I would do it again. The real advantages were flexibility of scheduling and pace. My job at the time was not one that came with predictable hours.

Disadvantage: Many people still have not even heard of Excelsior. You may get funny looks here and there, but if your knowledge and work ethic are strong, no one should hassle you about it.

I don't think Ohio has any problem with accepting EC nurses, but it's best to check with them directly.

I live in Toledo, Ohio and went through Excelsior's LPN to RN program. I graduated in August and took my NCLEX and received my Ohio license in September. I loved the program. I continued to work full time throughout the program, so it's flexibility was nice. The CPNE was stressful, but as long as you keep focused, it is definitely do-able.

I'm currious where you heard California doesn't except EC grads. I'm getting close to being done (still have micro, english and the cpne to do) and I live in Ca. I have friends who went through EC and haven't had any problems.

CA will accept Excelsior education as long as the student was enrolled by December 5, 2003.
