YAY

I just wanted to say.... That I finally start in the MICU in 1 week. I'm super super super excited and all I have ever wanted to be since I was a 5 years old is an ICU nurse. No seriously I was probably the only 5 year old that skipped on watching Barney so I could watch Rescue 911 and Trauma Life in the ER. That is it, if you could see my smile it would be ginormous! :D

Congratulations! Enjoy your orientation and keep us posted!

Best thing to do, keep ya mouth close, and ears and eyes open. The more stuff you do hands on the better. If you're not comfortable with someone then just ask, even if you are an experienced nurse. The worst thing you can do is do something you don't know or aren't comfortable doing because you don't wanna say you dont know how to do it and then end up killing a patient.

Congratulations!!!! Is this your first job out of school? I'm applying to a job in the MICU and one in the SICU this weekend, so wish me luck!

Any tips you can give me on what worked for as far as applying and interviewing?

Elisa - I graduated in August and it was really hard for everyone to find jobs, in fact it took me 3 months. I eventually got hired as a rehabilitation nurse which I loved but I have always known that I wanted to be an ICU nurse, with my hospital they prefer to hire within so when I applied for a transfer, when a position in the MICU became available I really didn't even go on a interview. It was more like "hey glad you applied, here is what you will be doing, were glad to have you" My best advice to you is to keep your chin up and you heart set on what you want, I had to take a detour to my dream job which sucked but I got there! GOOD LUCK and I hope you get either position!
