  1. Thanks for your reply! I actually just found out yesterday that I will be starting in a step down neuro-trauma ICU in a few weeks, so the plan now is to work in that unit for a few years and then transition on to a year in a full ICU before applying to anesthesia school. Congratulations to you on your new MICU/SICU job! And good luck!
  2. thank you so much for this post! obviously everyone is different, but what you said about the repetitiveness of being an fnp echoes much of what i have been fearing about going down that path as opposed to being a crna. can you tell me a little more about what you like and dislike about being a crna?
  3. Thanks! I did a one-year accelerated BSN program, and did not have any clinical rotations in an ICU. I did have a three week rotation in a step down neurotrauma ICU, in which I have a potential job which starts in September, but I would LOVE to get a job in a unit first without having to begin on the step-down unit, so that I have the time to work two or three years in an ICU before starting CRNA school. I hear of new students getting jobs in an ICU right away, but it seems like every ICU wants v. experienced nurses.
  4. Hello! I just graduated nursing school this month and am planning to take the NCLEX in July and then beginning to apply for jobs. My question is, did anyone get a job in an ICU as a brand new nurse, and if so, how did you accomplish this goal?
  5. So you were hired in the MICU right out of school? I'll be graduating in May, and am actually applying to a job in the MICU this weekend. Do you have any tips you can give me on what worked for you as far as applying and interviewing? I'd love to know what you did to be successful in getting hired in an ICU as a brand new nurse! -Elisa
  6. Hi! I just saw that you have been working in the MICU ever since you graduated. I too am interested in critical care and graduate in May. I'm applying to a job in the MICU this weekend. Any tips you can give me on what worked for as far as applying and interviewing? I would love to know how you were successful! -Elisa

Congratulations!!!! Is this your first job out of school? I'm applying to a job in the MICU and one in the SICU this weekend, so wish me luck! Any tips you can give me on what worked for as far as applying and interviewing? -Elisa
  8. okay, thanks for the advice! I didn't even think that I would just have to do a recert, that is helpful.
  9. Hi everyone, I would love some quality advice from you all. I am in an accelerated BSN program, and will be applying for a nursing externship in an MRICU on January 1st, and would love to make myself as competitive as possible. I have a 3.8 GPA and good recommendations, but nothing else to really set myself apart from the crowd. Would you recommend getting any certifications prior to applying for the externship, like ACLS or a basic dysrhythmias course, or would this not make sense for me as I'm still a student? What about becoming a member of AACN? Would this matter to a hiring manager? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Elisa
  10. Has anyone who applied in the first admissions period for FACT heard that they have not been accepted? I applied in the first period and have not heard anything at all!
