Wow, got a test to study for before school starts!

Is this the norm? We have a terminology and then later a dosage calculations test for Emory. They sent us info with a study guide and book to buy even before orientation.

They sent us the list of books and had to have them before July 1. We have to read 10 chapters before week 1 and email 3 online quizzes before orientation.

Crazy! I guess there is an upside to being in a really disorganized nursing program

Yep, it is. Only 1 book to buy before orientation? They're going easy on you ;)

We had to pass a dosage calc test with 100% accuracy in the first month of school, so we got the info on it (including textbook to buy, expectations, etc) end of June before our end of August start date.

Best of luck to you, it's a wild ride!! :D

Get used to nursing school. We were given reading and/or project assingments before every semester. We were always told that it was optional, but most of us tried to do at least part of the work. Nursing school is a matter of survival. There is a belief among teachers that if they make things really hard they will weed out people who wont pass the NCLEX. They of course will denign this. Most of us worked full time and were always trying to get whatever we could done whenever we could. This unfortunately meant breaks before semesters.

Luckily I'm working 70 hours a week now before school starts in a career i hate to save money so I don't have to work while going to school. I want to devote any time i need to studying, even though I'm the type that never studies! Ha. Everyone says "that stuff you pulled in college to get As won't work in nursing school," so I guess everyone has me scared.

Ah, you got the packet, too? I'm scared, haha...ah, well, guess we'd better crack the books open!

By the way, don't know if you've been over to the Georgia thread, but we've got a thread going for Emory people, it's called "Emory Pre-Req questions" or something like that, but now the title should be changed to "How to survive Emory" or something similar, lol - you should come by and say hello, might be some tips from the student in the thread that's going there now! :)

I'll do that. BTW, I got the book that we're supposed to use for the pre-test from amazon for 9 bucks shipped with the CD. I think it's $37 new.
