worry about job

Shadowed for a new job last week, and have not heard from the employer since.....I called a couple times and left a message. NO reply. I am scared!

I really liked the work! I couldn't get into it fully because I was just shadowing but the patient load was such that you could really spend alot of time in each patients room. The NA I worked with even took a breakfast break (honest, I am not kidding) but I would have rather done a bit more with the patients.

I am just used to so much more work, doing LTC in the past. It is hard for me to sit down!

Does it sound like they have decided not to hire me?

One thing that I have learned throughout my life and my many jobs is that many/most employers do not feel the need to reciprocate the same respect and courtesies that they expect from you. They expect you to call and be courteous, but they may not call you. They expect you to be on time, but they can be late, etc. Yes, you want the job, but THEY obviously need an employee or there would not be an opening, right?

So, it is hard to say. You may have the job and they just haven't had the time to get back with you or they may have decided to pass on you and did not feel that a courtesy call would be in order (I disagree, by the way). I think if someone takes the time to apply, interview, etc. then they deserve a courtesy call to say.."We decided to go another way because....good luck to you in the future." That of course is my own opinion!

Anyway, I hope you got the job. I believe they would be lucky to have you.

Very well put, Jay. You are exactly right! We took time off from our day to interview, we spent the time and gas money to go meet the interviewer. I've always believed that the least a potential employer could do would be to place a short call and say that one didn't get the job, but thanks for your time.

Even a form letter would help.

In case there are any NM reading this, I do not mean any disrespect, please understand, OK? This is just a courtesy that would be very nice, although I know that you all have a busy schedule as well.

You are "up to it." It is normal to be scared, but as you get into your routine at the new job, you will be great. Will this be in a hospital?

Good luck on your new job. As questions come up, just ask. If you have "one of those days," post a vent. If you have "one of those days" that remind you of why you are a cna then post that too!

Hey guys! Thanks for your encouragement!

Went through some orientation with a room full of nurses. They were all so sharp (all nurses are, but these were the cream of the crop), I felt about as bright as a small appliance bulb. :) I had to ask some questions that were just so obvious to all of them. Only CNA there.

But, what a wonderful opportunity! So much to learn....
