should i be worried...

Published

Hello, This is my first post and I wanted to say hello and introduce myself. My name is Kristin and I am in the process of applying to nursing school. My husband is retiring from the Navy shortly which leaves a bit more time to pursue my dream of becoming an RN. I am a little nervous about being accepted to the program for which I am appying because of my lackluster grades in high school. Mind you it has been 17 years since I graduated (wow. That's alot.LOL) I have taken a couple college classes recently and have gotten A's in both. How worried should I be about poor grades so long ago? Any input would be great!

:welcome: Welcome to our forums!

You should be fine as long as your recent college coursework reveals good grades. Good luck to you, and continue traveling down the successful pathway.

Thanks! I noticed you are from Fort Worth. We will be moving to Weatherford in April, and I considering Weatherford College. Any thoughts?

I have not heard anything negative regarding the nursing programs being offered at Weatherford College. All I know is that the school is competitive regarding admission to the nursing programs.

I have the same problem.

My high school grades are very poor :o its been 9 years since i was in high school. And it feels like i have to work even harder now to make up for the past. I have taken 3 classes so far with good grades (not incl my current class) . Its very tirering. but I know it will be worth all this work down the road

Just wanted to post that I was in a similar position but I was accepted into NS, so there is hope!

My HS grades were good until my senior year in which I became rebellious and grades slipped. Then I tried college and my grades were inconsistent. Once I decided to purse nursing I went back to school for Micro, Psych, A&P, etc. and earned terrific grades to establish a recent history of academic excellence. I believe it made all the difference!

I am now an honors student and will graduate in December!

Good Luck- you can do it!

Ohhh, myyyy! It had been 28 years since high school for me, when I started Nursing School, and high school was lackluster for me. Don't worry about then, set your mind on NOW! You'll do fine! :wink2:

Asia, I'm with you! When I start NS in September, it will be 32 years since I graduated High School! It cracked me up that some schools wanted my HS transcripts. As if those transcripts have anything to do with who I am now! :)

Hey Lori S!

I know!!!! They wanted my transcripts, too. Unfortunately, my grades weren't listed, the state didn't do that back then. Lol! I have a letter from the Secretary of Education for the state of Wyoming, and the letter states," has successfully completed High School."

Good luck to you in Nursing School.

Hah, hah! I'll bet some of the people reading that think we went to school during the dinosaur age!

Umm, we didn't, did we?

I had this vision of the person who had to retrieve my transcripts going down into a crypt or a vault, passing through numerous creaking doors, holding a candle in her hand, finally opening another heavy door, opening a box of transcripts and a large puff of dust rising through the air... :lol2: That's probably why it took them weeks and weeks to get my transcripts to me!
