I was just curious as to how many weekends other nurses were required to work. I have to work 4 weekend shifts per month, which in my opinion I feel is too much. I have talked to some of my nurse friends in other states and I am required to work more weekend shifts than all of them. So I wanted to find out how many weekends nurses in southern california are required to work.

When you say weekend shifts, do you mean the whole weekend or only one day of the weekend?
I'm used to jobs where I worked 3 out of 4 weekends, or most recently every other weekend and that includes the whole weekend, Saturday and Sunday.

At my hospital you work every other weekend which works out to 4 weekend shifts a month. I am per diem and have to be avail to work 2 weekend shifts out of 4 weeks, they don't have to be a consecutive Sat/Sun.
I have heard of some hospital offering nurses with lots of Seniority weekend free schedules but this is rare and usually for nurses with greater than 20yrs seniority.

I currently work every third weekend but my last job was a weekend free schedule. They had a full crew of weekend option people and none of the regular shift people worked weekends.

I work every weekend, 3 12's, 36 hrs/ week, and paid 40 hours, that is aside from the weekend differential.
There's also 16 hrs/shift, 32 hrs/week ,and paid 40 hrs, aside from the weekend differential.

In most acute care facilities, RN's generally work every other week-end. In our facility if you have been there over 20 years, then you can take the option of working every third week-end. Please remember that a hospital is a 24hr/7day a week operation.
