Working and School?

I plan to start my BSN in the fall, but have to work full time, as well. Does anyone know if it is possible to work full time and go to school part time? I've heard everything and am SO confused! I played sports in college and also attended school full time. I feel that if I can handle that, I can handle anything!!

I'm moving your question to the General Forums where someone who is doing it has done it can answer.

I've worked full time and went to school part time throughout everything I've done: my ADN (which really wasn't part time, but I took all the co-req classes prior to starting nursing), my BSN and hopefully through my Masters. When there's a will, there's a way.

It's going to be very difficult to do a BSN program part time however. There will be clinicals, and other classes like research, community health, that are going to take a lot of your time. It might be 3/4ths time or full-time school and no way out of that. But if you can work around your school schedule, with that determination and willpower, you can do it.

Whether or not you can attend the nursing portion of your program in a part time mode is pretty much determined by the policies of the school that you attend. Most schools do not have a mechanism for part time progress. As far as being able to work full time and handle school at the same time, it really breaks down to what you are willing to do and how you organize yourself, as well as your overall health during this stressful time. Get good and sick or have some life emergencies and your perfectly working schedule may fall apart. Good luck with your decisions. Hope you are able to work out a situation that works for you.

People do it, but i dunno how. One of the girls in my class is the EMS director at our hospital (full-time mgt position) and also full-time nursing school. Dunno how she does it, but I give her credit for it all. I work part-time at the same hospital and have since the beginning of my ADN nursing program (6 mo to go)

I work full-time weekends while attending school full-time during the weekdays.

I have Monday through Friday off, then work two 16-hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday. My place of employment pays me for a 40 hour work week.
