My wife, A Registered Nurse, recently had to have a triple bypass after which she had an MI. We are both Travel Nurses as we have been for 11 + years. My Wife is concerned that she may not be able to work as A Nurse after her 3-4 months of Re-Hab... Any Nurses out there who have had a Bypass and/or an MI and returned to work? How about continuing to work as Travel Nurse? She has not been told by her MD that she can or cannot work as a nurse but she is wondering if she will actually be able to or if she needs to wait longer than 4-5 months post-op to look at a travel assignment. Her age is > 60 But

i truly don't know, jimbo.
i would think your doctor would have a better guestimate as your wife nears the end of a few months recovery.
it's honestly too soon to tell.
wishing you both the very best.

I had triple bypass in May 1999, I went back to work in August of that year, haven't stopped since. I work med surg. The doctor that I had let me know right up front that this isn't a disability. I have questioned his judgement several times over the years!!!! I don't go to that particular cardiologist any longer. I can no longer lift or pull on pt. the way I could before due weakness in my upper body related to the trauma of the surgery. I can basically do everything I did prior to surgery though ohter than the lifting. I exercise three times a week, keep my follow up appointments. At first I had to go every 6 months for check ups, now I only go once a year. Good luck, I wish you the best and if you have any questions that I can help you with I will be happy to, just pm me.

Lots of it is the mental attitude you have. I wasn't at that time working in the medical field but went on to get my LPN then RN degree. So my advice is keep moving smiling and exercising.Larry in Florida RN
