:monkeydance:i applied for another employment authorization card last july since it will expire soon, but the problem is my adjustment of status (from tourist visa) was approved just last week (august 28). i didn't expect that my green card will be approved since most information in this forum and blog sites says there are no visas available! my priority date is october 2006.
is there anyone knows how to refund the payment or is it refundable in the first place? thanks

First of all congrats. The information you've been reading are correct. AOS and going through Consular processing are totally different and the only thing common is the I-140. There are lots of people who went through CP w/ PDs of 2005 who still haven't been given Visas up to now. Their cases are adjudicated by NVC and the US Embassies on their respective countries and have a different processing time-line from one who is doing AOS of w/c both the I-140 and the I-485 (AOS) are adjudicated by USCIS and it is common knowledge that it is always faster to go through AOS vs CP w/c why some, just like you chose to go through that route in the first place.
Also, there are people who did AOS who have Nov. 2006 PDs that were given green cards and they have been reporting it here since July and Aug. Your case was actually quite on the tail-end already if you've just been notified of being granted one this late.
There are also those that have only slightly earlier PD than yours that applied for renewal of their EAD and that is the wise choice as no one knows for sure on up to what PD will green cards be given for those who went through AOS. If they didn't apply for renewal and they weren't one of the lucky ones granted green cards then they will be left in limbo. Better safe than sorry. And that is what you did as well, w/c is a wise choice.

If I were in your situation, I wouldn't bother for a refund, you have been so blessed.
