Canada is a big place. Where do you want to go?

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PCVICU and peds oncology.

You can look at the other related threads on this forum for that kind of information. There's lots of it already here. On the top left hand of the page, under the allnurses.com banner, there's a "roadmap" to this thread. It looks like this:

allnurses.com Nursing for Nurses / Nursing Discussions By Locations / International Nursing / Canadian Nurses / Work Permit For Canada... Click on the Canadian Nurses and it will bring up a list of threads. Choose the ones that are similar to yours and you'll find all the answers you're after. Then when you have more specific questions, come on back.

I heard that Canada has budget shortage and they no longer take any nurse immigrant. You should try go to .au or .uk. not .ca or .us

Sorry but very hard if not from the EU to get a work permit in the UK and can you provide a link which shows they are no longer taking foreign nurses in Canada.

Well that's strange because I just got a job in Canada & they told me they're just starting a foreign nurse recruitment drive here in the UK. Guess it depends where you're looking.

Oh Wow! I am so happy to read your post! Could you please tell me how to get in the bandwagon with UK recruitment drive? I am Japanese, and will have US licence soon. B/C I live next door to Canada, your news of getting a job in Canada is also comforting. Do they take new grad with 6 week preceptor training? :balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons:

Try approaching hospitals in the province you want to live, you also need to apply to province and meet their requirements and pass their exam

SD is absolutely right - you have to meet the requirements in the province you want to work in. Unlike the USA things are slightly different between the provinces. Start with their nursing organisation website.

From what I have seen you will have to have a certain number of recent registered nursing hours worked as part of their valdation process. It's very approximately around the 1200 mark excluding vacations, sick leave or days off for any reason. It's a bit of a nightmare working them out!! Therefore, it's unlikely to be an option for new grads from other countries.

You will have to pass the Canadian Nursing Exam at some point but you can start working on a temporary permit, once you have secured your job etc etc etc but you have to pass the exam within a specified time - for most, if not all, provinces.

Different rules apply for Quebec in particular though. There are also some provinces that only accept a 4 year degree course as well.

So, to reiterate what SD said, the answer is check it out on the various websites. You can also find links on the Canadian Embassy sites.
