I don't have any hard answers. You might want to look into insurance companies that hire nurses to answer customer service lines. I had a friend once in NY who was going to do that. She said the company was going to give her all the equipment needed for her home. She ended up taking another job and not doing that. It might be worth the research. Hello Everyone, I always browse around here and find so much valualbe information. Now, I have a question that I hope could be answered by someone that is in it or knows of it, I know its a bit touchy because you dont want the company to be bombarded..but.

I am a Registered Nurse and have been in Critical Nursing for about 15 years now and was dx earlier this year with RA, yes, it sucks but we press on and find our means! I was thinking about jobs where you can work from home? Can anyone please share there knowledge? Thanks in advance and A Happy Holiday Season to you all!!

Just a thought, but you may want to check into pharmaceutical/medical device companies. I'm currently employed as a sales rep for a wound care company. I can tell you that we hire WOCNs with years of experience in the field- to serve as "clinical liason's" for us. They work from home, and answer calls from our customers who are experiencing difficulty with our products, or are uncertain about what they should do with a challenging wound patient. I know there are a lot of nurses out there who resent pharmaceutical/medical device companies- but the beauty of being a nurse is this: on the hiring totem pole- nurses are always going to have the upper hand, especially in these two industries. (Trust me, I know- and I'm not even a nurse, yet!)

You mentioned you were a critical care nurse- try to remember what supplies you dealt with most often while on the floor. You might want to do some research on the bed companies your hospital may have used, or the supplies you used for fecal management, what kind of bathing products were used, what were the medications you administered most frequently.. the possibilities are truely endless. I would first look into the products that truely made your life a lot easier while on the floor, because if you do end up working for that company, you'll want to represent something you really believe in and have used on your own.

Once you find a company/opening- you may want to consider calling the local rep for that company. Sounds strange, I know. But more than likely, they can give you the hiring managers name, info.. and you can even find out what the company is looking for in their 'potential' candidate. My company offers "referral" incentives (most pharm/medical device companies do).. so it's a win-win for you both. If a nurse were to call me asking for all this, I probably wouldn't hesitate to help if I could.

I used to work from home as a telephonic case manager. Check with companies such as Concentra, Paradigm Health, etc. You will generally be required to have a CCM certification, but I was able to obtain mine through my employer during my first year of employment.

Look into coding, many hospitals have coders work from home. One thing expect a big pay cut, but the lifestyle change is worth it.

I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease 12/08 and would love to start working from home. Have you found anything as yet?

Well, it has been several long months since I have even been on here, so long that I forgot I even posted my first question! I am surprised I did not get any emails from this website saying I had responses!! Anyways... I am smiling right now to know there were a few responses and I thank you for them!
