Published

.........Hi my MD people!

Well I just graduated in May and passed my boards last week so I am officially and RN( Thank You:D ) Now am back on the job search but i'm hoping to do it more effectively so I need help with any inside information like who's hiring NG? nurse recruiters or managers' names? phone #'s? tips on how best to get in touch with them ( coz apparently they don't spend any time in their offices..either that or the phone line is cut and they haven't realized it yet:wink2:.

Should i email? call? show up? volunteer? HELP!! I have an almost one yr old child to feed!

I live in Bmore county but I'm willing to commute

Thx

I tried everything I could... except just showing up! I decided to show up at all the hospitals I wanted to work at on Monday. The first one I went to I got lucky! The nurse recruiter called the nurse manager on the floor I wanted to work on and I got an interview for that day!! I job shadow the nurse who is leaving on Wednesday ( I actually got to buy real scrubs)!

The nurse recruiter told me she liked my initiative, determination, and the fact that I had my resume, license, CPR card, and copies of my other certifications with me at the time. What I did was just to talk to her and let her know the things about me that I thought made me stand out. I want to work in L&D, so I took basic fetal monitoring etc. I rattled off all that I could think of right away.

My advise is just show up and let them see your face. If this did not work for me I was going to start stalking the nurse managers on the floors I wanted to work on:)

I agree with taking all your documents with you but I'm don't agree with just show up. do you like to work in LTC I was in an interview last week and the DON told me that she is looking for RN for night shift PM me. It is in silver spring I have no idea if exp is amust or no.

I would always throw spaghetti on the walls and see what sticks. I've got 15 applications rolling right now. Got a drug test order in the mail but I didn't formally apply there yet (but it's a good sign)! The more choices, the better job!

Most jobs now are having me take personality, conflict resolution, management and skills exams online. I was up 'till 4:30 testing for one application. Places can afford to be picky. If you can't find a job, apply to the facilities with he most openings --you know they've got problems and they'd be happy to see you...plus seniority is faster with high turnover so u get that management mention on your resume then you've got a chance out of a job and onto a career!

Some facilities are painfully slow; the longest wait from resume to hire was 3 months with the U of M. I had forgotten I applied!

Many congratulations! Definitely go in and get some face time if possible. I'm surprised your program didn't have you apply before you graduated. Most of us had our jobs lined before the start of our last semester.

Have you tried LTC, just to get working and have money coming in. I worked LTC when I graduated. It wasn't my first choice or 2nd, but it beat waiting around for a job to materialize.

Interview advice: always act positive and interested, but not begging for a job. Read one or more interview books. Study for your interview like you are studying for a test.

Good luck

I can understand how you feel.I just moved from Texas and i have almost ten years expirience and i still cannot find a job in the silver spring area. I will let you know if i find anything that you can apply to,just keep looking.

I don't know if the geriatric floors are hiring (I see prior posts about long term care) but I work in the ED at Union Memorial Hospital and have seen 2 new grads getting oriented to the floor the past few weeks.

Its in Baltimore City but if you're still looking its another option :)

All their information is online but if you PM me I can give you the name of the HR lady I spoke with.

I know that St. Joseph hospital in Towson takes new grads. I walked in and had an interview that same day. The nurse recruiter is really nice....There are several positions listed on their website. I would get dressed up take all documents that you may need (cpr, resume, license, any certifications, etc) and go pay the recruiter a visit. It worked for me!

Look up Genesis Healthcare. They have LTC/SNF centers throughout the state and are having a new grad program starting in October.

Also, I'm not sure how far away this is from you, but Howard County General Hospital is posting New Grad positions in October to start in Feb.

Good luck and congrats on the RN :)

I wouldn't send my dog to Genesis.

Go with HCGH. I know them inside and out; they do a superior job compared to others in that vicinity. It's not too big and not too small. The food isn't bad there, either...staff are all great from the units I've gone through. I had a kid there since it was rated tops (forum not paid media) with mothers.

@Castlegates..I wouldloveto get into HCGHbut right now though they have a lot positions open, they are asking for 1-2 yrs of experience for all of them:scrying: and I can't wait till Feb to start working so I'm knocking at everyone's door hoping someone opens.

@Jamie4776 What ended up happening at St. Joseph? I walked in yesterday and the recruiters were all out.. and where r u currently working if u don't mind my asking?
