Will this ever happend for me?

Published

Hey guys. I am feeling really discouraged and I am hoping someone can offer me some advice that may have been on a similar path.

I started taking prerequisites for nursing back 5 years ago. At the time, I was not mentally prepared and I had a 2 year old, and a full time job. I passed english 101 with a B and Psych with a C. I failed my math class.

Semester 2, I registered to retake the math class, english 105, and psych 205. I stopped attending all classes suddenly. this reflects 3 Fs for that semester.

Now, 5 years later, I am feeling overwhelmed. I registered to retake the math class, english 105, and the psych 205. My goal is to get all As in these 3 classes to help my GPA. Is this going to reflect poorly on me when applying to programs? I fear that retaking these classes (the math one 3 times) is going to make it very hard for me to get accepted into a program.

Even though I graduated high school 10 years ago, my grades for high school are even worse with D's and F's. While I am prepared now, and I know that I can pass these classes and get good grades, I am afraid my past will hold me back. Any advice or suggestions?

Probably depends a lot on where you live, so hard to say without knowing that. It might be worth looking into ADN programs if you have difficulty getting into an RN program though.

Personally, I would say to not give up. I am going back to school as a second career and I too have to retake some classes. I believe personally that if you retake the classes and are showing a positive trend that should reflect positively in your favor. I would say to also contact a coordinator at your school to see exactly what grades are looked at, meaning if all the grades are looked at or only the higher grade and if the older grades are going to reflect negatively or positively on your GPA.

Don't be discouraged and try not to put a time line on life, something I have learned the hard way. Being mentally prepared is VERY important as well. Good luck with everything!!

I know the program at my university limits you to retaking a class 3 times, but every school is different so I can't speak for yours! If I were you I'd sit down with my advisor and they can tell you what the best route for you would be, how the program looks at grades, etc. But don't feel discouraged... everyone's journey is different!! Best of luck to you ?

Will you really be able to succeed taking all 3 classes at the same time? In addition to what other posters have said above, I would recommend taking 1 class first -- to see how you do with going back to school. Taking 3 classes at the same time might be overwhelming for you.
