Which Study materials are the best for NC exams

Published

Which study material will better prepare you to pass the EC NC exams, study guides from Ebay, test prep companies, or the textbooks reccomended by EC.

I used a combination of the three, so I can't say which is best ... and everyone learns differently. It's really a matter of how you like to study, and what gets you to the goal of learning the material outlined in the EC exam content guides.

Are you just getting started with EC?

I had EC to evaluate my transcripts a couple of years ago, and they said they the only pre-reqs I need is A&PII and Lifespan and development plus all of the NC exams and CPNE. I have been putting it off. I'm enrolled in a masters degree program now, and after that I'm going to motivate myself to finish getting my ADN degree with God's help. I'm currently in the military and my initial plan was to apply to an accelerated BSN program before I retire, but why do that when EC has already accepted me into their program. I have been in the militay for 19 years and plan to do 30 years. I was pleased that EC accepted military corpsman into their program. Tommorow I will call EC to evaluate my transcripts again. I keep telling myself that I know I can do it, and I just cant listen to negative people, because these same people say that EC is not a good program because it is online. When I retire I plan to move back to Texas, and the Texas board of nursing does accept EC grads.

Just be aware that the curriculum has changed a little -- one of the nursing concepts tests was split into two exams, and an additional exam (Focused Clinical Competencies Assessment, or FCCA, a three-part, computer-based exam) have been added to the curriculum. The tests are no longer called "nursing concepts," either, but they're still very similar. The CPNE still exists, too.

The great thing for you is that if you have a Masters degree, you can get EC to waive their "Information Literacy" class requirement, which is a $290, one-credit course done online.

People who think EC is a diploma mill or not a good program were obviously never EC students! Heh. It's definitely NOT the easy way out at all. :)

Best of luck to you!

Thanks for your words of encouragement, are the new exams similar to the original?

I used the texts and study guides.

My understanding is that the tests are quite similar, but shorter.

Very similar. There are a couple of new sections added to one of the exams, one on functional assessment and the other on end-of-life care, but other than that, they're very similar, as far as I can tell! I was under the old curriculum, but many students under the new curriculum are still using the older study materials with great success.
