a. rice

b. turkey breast, boiled rice, angel food cake

My answer would be letter A but the book's answer is letter B. Just want to make sure if the book is wrong. Thank you!

I'd have agree with the book. The angel food cake is probably made with eggs, milk, and oil, all of which contain fat. The turkey also contains some fat. The question doesn't say skinless turkey breast, and thats where the most of the fat is..in the skin. The boiled rice wouldn't contain any unless it has butter or margarine or oil added after cooking it.

Rice is a starch..a carb. Rice in and of it self contains no fat (which is one of the reasons boiled rice, plain white rice, is part of the BRAT diet when someone has GI upset, its very easy to digest (no fats) and easy on the belly)

I agree with the answer of B. The turkey will contain some fat, I do not believe rice has any. My 2 cents.

I agree with CT PIXIE. Very well put. Even lean turkey without the skin still contains some fat ( although very little ). :D

Sorry! my question was wrongly stated. The question is which is for a low fat diet? That's why I answered letter A but the books answer is letter B.

From my understanding "low fat' indicates that fat is there, but just now in excess. Answer A is completely fat free, so that's why B is the right choice. It is confusing though. I'm sure that wording in nursing school will make my life very hard.

A "low fat" diet can contain some fat, just not in excess. Rice has no fat and would work for a person on a no fat diet. But no fat diets are far and few between due to the body needing some fat in the diet to function properly. Its just dependant on what type of fat you are taking in.

B would still be the best choice for a person on a low fat diet. Although there is fat in the turkey (if skinless it will be very little, even if its not skinless), it is still lower in fat than most meats and poultry so it would be the better choice for protein. The rice contains no fat and the angel food cake contains some too..but that choice for a low fat diet person is much better than say, a hunk of steak, loaded baked potato, veggies drenched in butter and ohhh, lets say ice cream..although right now that does sound pretty good to me..I'm starving :chuckle

You can't live on rice. It is almost pure carbohydrate, with NO fat and very little protein, not to mention little vitamin and mineral content.

Would have to agree with the book also. It's kind of a tricky question but rice, I'm assuming it's steamed, definitely does NOT have fat and I know that for a fact and that's all you need to know to answer the question.

Specializes in none.

I think letter B is the better choice as well. It did say "low fat". We really have to watch how they word these questions. That's one of my biggest downfalls is misreading the questions. Read and reread WHAT THE QUESTION IS ASKING.....I am still struggling with that. Good luck to you!!
