Where to work first

I will be graduating in about a month. I am stressing about N-clex but also about working. I already have a job that is prn CNA in a nursing home and they want me to work as an RN as soon as I am done. I don't know if it is a good idea to go to a nursing home as a new grad. I also got an offer to work in post partum, but I did not think it was a good idea to go into a specialty right away. I think that probably starting on the med-surg floor and getting the basics would be the best. What would you recommend? I enjoy elderly, babies, adults, etc. I have liked everything even mental health but I don't know where to start.

I don't know if this helps or not but i was told also that its recommended to work 1 yr med-surg. that way you can use all the basics and you can pretty much work any job you wanted to in the hosp.

While I think a year of med/surg can be valuable, post-partum jobs can be hard to new grads to snag, so that's awesome that it was offered to you. If that is your passion, I would take that position. You would still get experience with juggling multiple patients, and many new moms have underlying health issues you'd be dealing with as well.

If that's not what you really and truly want to do, though, perhaps a more general floor would be a good place for you. Try to think if there is a certain body system or patient population you found particularly interesting (I love hearts and brains, but HATE GI stuff, so I took a job on a Neuro unit) that would help you find a good fit.

If you really want PP, I don't think med/surg would be too much of a help. I'm in NICU, and I can tell you not a thing learned in med/surg woulda helped me out (except time mgt)!
