Where to take prerequisite classes?

Published

I am finishing up my first bachelors degree this summer in film and want to enter the nursing field. Where is everyone taking their prerequisite classes? Do I just sign up for them at a community college and take the classes until I've completed (and aced) them all? Should I take them all at the same school, or can I take one class at one school, and on at another if the scheduling works better? IS there any specific program or degree I should apply under? I haven't seen anything about where to take these classes so I would love to know. Should I take them at a school that has a nursing program or does that not matter? Thank you!

My tip:

Take them at a quality CC (QC in Boston is great): they are cheap and you should be able to pull As to raise your pre-req GPA.

I am taking my classes at a CC because it is just cheaper, but make sure your school classes will transfer to the school where you are taking your nursing program. I like my CC because the classes are smaller and I have access to my teachers that I might not have at a bigger school.

Visit with the nursing schools about the other schools from which they'll accept transfer credits.

CCs are great... small classes and excellent teachers. They also have lots of online, fast track and evening classes.

Awesome, thank you! I am so excited to start this.

If you get a move on you might still be able to knock out both AP1 and AP2 this summer at QC.

I stil have a few classes to finish up for my first degree this summer and I need the second half of the summer to plan out what I'm doing and what school I want to go to and everything. I want to move quickly, but I don't want to rush either. Thanks though! Do you go to school there?

Nope but I took a prerequisite there years back and it was cheap and had great instructors.

I took Biology at Massasoit and Chemistry at Quincy College (both are great). I'll take the rest of my pre-reqs at Quincy College because it's much closer.

At these schools, you can just fill out an enrollment form as a "non-matriculating" student when you take classes for the first time. Then going forward, you can register online since you'll have a student ID.

I want to take my pre-reqs at the same school (QC) mainly because it makes things easier. I don't want to request transcripts from 5 different places.
