When did you take the TEAS V?

Published

Hey! It's my first post here and I'm so sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I haven't been in school for quite awhile, I got my GED when I was 16 and I'm now 23...so it really has been a long time.

For awhile I considered doing something other than nursing, so I took the entry test and got my scores. There was no science on it at all.

I went to my school's website and it says I have to take the TEAS V, I did great on the practice tests I found online...other than the science part.

The site sort of implies that before you take ANY prerequisites for nursing, you need the TEAS V. Was that true in your experience? Or did you take it after you took prereqs?

I'm really stressing because I find it so easy to learn math and writing/reading but I feel like I'll need a structured science class to learn what I've seen on the science pretests. So if I have to take this test before I even GET to the prereqs, I'm going to be pretty upset.

I've asked three advisers and gotten different answers. One was "In some cases" another said "yes, the TEAS V comes before nursing prereqs" and the other said "No, you take it as entry into a nursing program"

Any help would be appreciated. I don't know if it varies by school but I thought I'd ask.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to AN! You may find the student area helpful, particularly the pre-nursing student forum and the TEAS forum. There are also some specific school forums as well as a general nursing program forum.

The TEAS is typically used for entry into the nursing program, not for prereqs. However, if you're in a BSN program that progresses from prereqs your 1st/2nd year into your nursing classes, I could see why the TEAS would be required for the prereqs. I am not familiar with the BSN requirements, though.

I just know for the ADN programs in my area, the TEAS are taken for entry into the nursing program and have nothing to do with taking prereqs.

Thread has been moved to the TEAS Exam forum.

Thanks so much! i'll take a look in that forum. I had no idea it even existed. I appreciate the answers.

I thought it was for entry into a program. I've never heard of it being needed to get into a prerequisite class. What school is this exactly? There might be some misunderstanding.

Typically you take the TEAS while taking pre reqs the semester you are applying

Tacoma Community College.

I think the advisers were just swamped and confused because they're getting a bunch of calls right now about financial aid, haha. They are SUPER behind. I'm going to go ahead and assume it's not before prereqs because that seems insane....buut I will study science anyway! :)
