When are pellgrants disbursed?

It's been soooo many moons since I was in school last that I can't remember. Do you know when the pellgrants are disbursed?

Usually the first week of classes. At least that is how my school works.

I feel the same way Jaysma. My school doesn't distribute ours until weeks after the semester starts as well.

Hmm...I might have to take out a temporary loan from the school itself to pay for the books. ugh.

At my school, we have an account with our financial aid in it and after the first week, they take out tuition money, books, etc from your balance and then what you have left over is called the "net check." You can sign up for direct deposit, so it can go directly into your bank account, or you just wait until they send it out which is like a few days.

Mine should be in my bank account by tomorrow and I started on January 9th.

Our subsidized/unsusidized loans are here by the 10th-12th but they won't give refunds of the extra money until the 20th and we start the 23rd. I'm going to call to get a better estimate on the pellgrants.

Whew...checked my account before I called and my pellgrant is already credited to my account. What a relief!

Ours are not disperssed until the add/drop mark. February 8th is the date they are credited to our account, however the school then has 14 days to "cut the check" so to speak. Generally its the friday after the add/drop date, in this years case it would be February 10th.

1st time borrowers have to wait an additional 14 days at my school

Also, if you have financial aid guarantee'd, see if your business office will authorize book vouchers...
