Whatever.

The other night around the 12 hr shift change, I was in my pt's room, talking with her while I did her assessment. The nurse's station was just out side of her room and everyone was busy. My pt looks at me and says, "You know, before nurses weren't allowed to talk in the hallways!" :eek:

I didn't know what to say so I kept going with what I was doing. She spent the rest of the evening hollering at the nurses in the hall and wanting to see the doctor about the meds we were giving her, most of which were her home meds. I guess she didn't trust us noisy nurses. :rolleyes:

I'm thinking no matter how much education we get, we'll still be somebody's maid. I love my job, but sometimes I get tired of being told by pt's family members that they want me to fetch them a cup of juice for themselves not the pt. There are times I feel like a waitress.

My mom worked for a *short time* in a hospital where nurses weren't allowed to have conversations in the station, and also were not supposed to be seen laughing or eating.

Our WAITRESS yeller was in full swing tonight. Yelling,cursing and spelling out the word NOW. This person is AAOx3.Kept so many of our sick pts awake. Doc had d/c ativan as he didnt want hin drugged. Our charge nurse called him and said if he didnt give us somthing to work with ,he'd be talking to us Q 10 minutes until he gave us somthing. This pt actually, when told he was keeping others awake replied"Do I look like I give a damn about those other patients?" Well,he pulled out his int at 0600 this am because "I can". We told him we had to put it back. Can you say 18 in the left hand! Mean, I know, but it was hard to resist.

I had a mom last night who was on her 2nd postpartum day call me in the room to change the babies diaper. I gave her THE LOOK and told her she could stand and change it and if she had any questions I would be right here to answer them. I was shaking my head the whole time.
