What is wrong with unionizing?

All,

It would seem that a union, with its power of cohesiveness to the issues, would be the only thing that a corporation would HAVE to listen to. The contract would HAVE to be honored.

Forming commities and filling complaints is NEVER going to have the impact that a national union would. The idea of having a national walk-out will only serve to get your license taken away and have you out of a job for the rest of your life BUT if there was a union sanction behind it with guidelines to be followed it would be in a signed document called a contract and you would have just cause for failure of performance of that contract.

Without a legal document, why should they treat us well. They have it just the way they want it. Any action that's not in a legal document THAT HAS POWER is just a smokescreen to keep it the way they want.

It just seems so logical to me.

I have no experience of having been in a union so maybe if someone could tell me...........

WHY NOT.

Good examples, jt! As a union rep that is what I do, represent the member, not defend them. My role is to ensure that they get fair treatment, according to management's own rules, ( it's amazing how few managers know their own rules well!) and by any relevant employment legislation.

I am a Registered Nurse, who also has undertaken training in trade union matters, provided by my union, the Royal College of Nursing.

I also get paid time off duty to attend update study days, again provide by the union.

LPN would assist the RNs with pt care.

Oh yea,I bet they would:rolleyes:

I think I see were the SEIU started to hatch thier plan.

But I'd have to really work in that enviroment to tell, but I'm LOVING the CNA's plan if i'm an RN in California and thinking it's a demotion in the foodchain if I'm an LPN.

I'll bet they'd just be wonderful to work with after that huh.

Anyway,it's all very interesting to see the story unfold and know that I'll be smack dab in the middle of something like it someday.

Learning as I go.

twins on opposite sides of the Atlantic, Don. ;)

We RNs who volunteer to serve as representatives for the nurses at our facilities are trained by our union but we are not on staff of the union & do not draw a salary from the union or the hospital for the stewardship we provide at our workplaces either.
