What to do on the waiting list

Published

Hi I was wondering if anyone else was stuck on a waiting list and had any suggestions as to whether it was worthwhile to stick it out (in my case a year and half) take some nursing classes that available to the public, such as medical terminology, principles of drug adminstration, calculations of pharmacology etc. or does it make sense to enroll in an LPN program and later bridge.

I currently have a decent job, not in the medical field, and while I am fascinated by nursing, I do not have to work ASAP in the field, unless it will make me a better nurse.

Apply to another program? Take EMT and maybe paramedic if feasible? Finish a bachelor's in something else and then do an accelerated BSN? Get a job and wait?

If you want to start working in the health care field, you could get your CNA or EMT-B license. Both can be done in about one semester. You can then work in a hospital or in pre-hospital care.

Good luck!

I would wait if you are able to keep on as you are. Maybe take some medical terminology or something like you said.

I just got on a 3 year waiting list, but I have to do all my pre requasites so It should keep me busy in the meantime.

I really recommend the medical terminology class because it helped me with nursing questions by learning the root words, suffix, etc. Plus it will keep you working on stuff while waiting on your program (if you decide to wait it out).

Our program required a 100% on med calc at the beginning of each semester and having that class will help if you aren't super strong in math, but I didn't take the med calc class and did fine.

If you plan to eventually get your BSN you can work on taking the non-nursing classes that are required like humanities, english, second language etc.
