What would my rank be?

Published

I was in the navy for 5yrs as a HM. I then went back to school and got my BSN, and have been working as a nurse now for 7yrs. If i decide to go back in the navy, what would my rank be?

Thanks

Probably LTJG (0-2E)

O2E if you have greater than 4 years of active time in points. There are some areas of nursing which will not count towards your constructive credit like LTC.

Thanks for the replies. I forgot to mention that im planning to start my msn in leadership this year. By the time i graduate, i'll be 42. Will navy still accept me at this age? And what will my rank be with msn? Thanks again

*i did 1 year LTC(my first job as nurse), 4yrs of medsurg, and 2yrs of critical care*

I. believe you could qualify to go to that officer training school thing and come out as an officer. I looking into this when I considered joining the military, I know there is some kind of program for people who have bachelor or higher degrees.

Typically it would be O2E. The only nurse that I have seen come in as a LT/03 was a midwife with years of experience.

I know the Air Force will take you up to 48 for medical jobs, although I think this is less for active duty, but I'm sure this is for Guard and Reserve. I thought all other services were less but can't confirm. In the AF they will give you credit for years of nursing only. You might come in as an O3 (Capt.) with more than 5 years. Your former enlisted status would give you more money. This is easily seen on the pay charts.

As others have said, it your experience typically needs to be full time working as an RN in a hospital setting. I.E. nursing homes and other outpatient stuff may not count.

You need 8 years of full time acute RN experience or an MSN and 4 years of experience to come in as an O-3. Your 5 years of active duty enlisted time gives you the prior-enlisted 'E' designation.

From what I have seen in the AF, you would enter as an O-2E, 1st Lt.

Thanks to all your reponses. Its definitely going to help me decide
