What are my chances?

Hi everyone! I have been reading these forums for a while now, and how found some extremely informative things regarding my future career and it excites me! I had a question for you guys, I live in Texas currently, and I will be applying to Lamar University in Beaumont, Tx in the Fall for January entry. My first semester was not so hot(which I kick myself every day for), but I have managed to bring my grades up somewhat over a couple of years. My AP-I is a C, AP-II is an A, Micro - A. My sciences are a 3.3 GPA, my cumulative is a 3.19, and my prereq's are a 3.2. I was wondering if anyone was in a similar situation as me, I am INCREDIBLY nervous about this, and any response would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much everyone, and sorry for the long post. :nuke:

best bet would be to speak with a nursing an advisor in the program. the nice ones will be straight up with you and tell you where you stand. nursing admission criteria and competition can vary A LOT from school to school so only people applying to your particular program can really give any insight. what might be a guaranteed acceptance in one program may be highly uncompetitive in another. also some programs have wait lists while others simply evaluate all applicants against each other regardless of how many previous times one may have applied.

I agree with the previous poster - talk to a counselor. You may also want to find out about the school. Is GPA all they use? Some schools in my area (especially the ADN programs) have a lottery system - as long as you pass the prereqs you are in the lottery. Others (mine included) place a great deal weight on experience, letters of rec, and GRE score.

Also, are you in a position to apply more broadly? Putting all your eggs in the basket of one school... this is not such a good idea if you can help it.

Good luck!

Apply broadly.

Always ask to be placed on the waiting list if you are not selected first group.

In your essays always emphasize a willingness to start training on short notice. (Literally the very next day. I had a classmate accepted the very first day of school.)

Best of luck!

Hey don't worry about it anything over 3.0 your in. I am also currently attending Lamar and I have applied for both the BSN and the ADN. I have some friends in the program and they told me there were people in the program that had 2.something for their gpa. only 140 students applied for the fall they don't know how many students they will accept though. One thing I do hate is that we have to wait until July to find out I am not a very pt person. But they are giving everyone until the end of summer 1 to get everything in. Which I think is wrong, the deadline for the application was March 1st so I think that everone should be done with everything for that deadline. And also with such a mandate on getting nursing students in and out working they are accepting more students and extending deadlines Im sure you will be getting in.
