What are my chances of getting in?

Published

Hello, I submitted my application, aka Nursingcas, a couple of months ago. I have a 3.814 GPA, and got an 86 on my HESI. The criteria to get in is 50% HESI score, 40% GPA, and 10% as being a local residence. My university accepts 64 people in their program every semester. I know their selection process is very objective, but in nursingcas, how come they asked if I'm a first generation college student. When I'm applying to other nursing school in nursecas, they didn't have that question. Do you think that they take that into consideration or it was just a coincidence?

Probably just done for statistical purposes, a lot of schools also ask for your ethnicity, your age, first generation, just so they have an idea. I think it was just a coincidence.... Also, based on the information you gave I think you have a preety good shot at being considered for your program. Best of luck to you [emoji4]

Despite the first response, none of us really have any way of knowing your chances of acceptance. Who knows how many applicants there are? Who knows all of those other applicants' various GPA's & test scores?

The "criteria" for acceptance is usually a rock-bottom, "we won't go any lower than this" figure. Anyone can surpass those numbers and in nursing school, the applicants usually far surpass the basic criteria.

The school's administration team is probably collecting data on the number of first-generation college students (FGCS) that applied to this particular program. The unique issues of FGCS have attracted an increasing amount of attention in recent years. Hence, inquiring minds likely want to know more about them.

Personally, I was a FGCS. I had to overcome a steep uphill battle in the realm of higher learning that legacy students who were reared in more college-fluent households did not face.

Hello, to apply in my program, you have to have a minimum gpa is 2.5, and a 75% on hesi. My advisor told me that an average of 150 students apply each semester.

The minimum requirements don't really tell you anything besides whether or not you can apply. If you're wondering about chances of being accepted to the program, you need to ask the school what the average accepted applicant's status is with regards to the things they consider for admission (in your case, HESI score, GPA, and local residence). Is there a point scale for admission? If so, ask how many points the average accepted applicant has.

If you can find out this information about the average accepted applicant, you'll know that if you hit the mark you have a very good chance of being accepted, if you fall slightly below it your chances are still good, if you're way below it your chances aren't as good. If you're above that value, you should have nothing to worry about. Ask the school and find out!! :)
