I believe it means to BUMP the post back up top, to get attention or something. could be wrong though

Nope, your right. You have to put at least one word in order to post so they "BUMP" it to the top.

Yep - that's correct. Let's say that I see a thread that asks a really good question but I don't know the answer to it. If I want to help that person out, I could 'give them a bump' and my post would bring the thread back up to the top of that forum. It would also make it so that the members looking at the 'Last 24 Hours' view would be more likely to see it.
