What was the best assignment you had?

Published

It seems this message board is very diverse in its members experiences, for me I am half way thru my first assignment in Charleston South Carolina. It seems there are a lot of newbies as well as seasoned travelers and hopefully will share their experiences.

That being said and to help us so called newbies make better choices of assignments, 1. Where was your best assignment and why?

Thanks

My first assignment was also in Charleston, S. C., and I totally loved it. This was right after Hugo, so there were a lot of thankful people in Charleston! I worked at Roper hospital on a Ortho floor, which is usually not my cup of tea.

But I worked with a wonderful Charge Nurse, and an awesome staff on all shifts! I never dreaded going into work, and it seems the shifs went so fast. I have not one complaint at all, and would do it all over again.

My next best assignment was here in WA at Group Health. There were two of them; one in a GI procedure clinic, and as a triage nurse. It was at Group Health I first learn about Epic, and I couldn't be more thankful, because I finally have a position and an employer I never intend on leaving!

My two favorites were at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, NC and at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, IA. Both were nice ER's (NO all patients!), and the staff were VERY traveler friendly!

What made Tampa General your worst assignment? What unit did you work on?

I'm currently at one of my favorite assignments (my second time here) in Winnemucca, a little town in northern Nevada. It wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea but suits me fine. It's a small (25 beds if you don't count the nursing home) hospital in a small town with some of the friendliest people to work with of anywhere I've been. The staff was very welcoming and the head nurse is just as accomodating on my schedule as she is on the regular staff's (very unusual as a traveler). The staffing is minimal, but work well together and I enjoy the variety and autonomy that goes along with it.

The small town has most of what I need and the nearest major city is only about 2 hours away. People in town seem very open and friendly for the most part - something I've noticed to be more common in the small western towns in my experience.

Oh, and every window I look out of in my house here has a view of the mountains!

Best- Rehabilitation Insitute of Santa Barbara- Santa Barbara CA

Worst- Beth Israel New York City

I did an assignment at Mercy in Cedar Rapids also and found it very traveler friendly. What ruined that assignment was my company put me in horrible dangerous hoursing.

Where was your housing? I was at Windsor on the River, and while it wasn't the greatest housing I've ever had, it's wasn't too bad... I'm in San Diego now, but I liked my assignment at Mercy in Cedar Rapids so much that I'm going back there in June for my next assignment.

I stayed at "The Point". It was horrible you could smell marijuanna in the hallway cock roaches..... just a creepy place. The apartment was so dirty I wouldn't walk around without my shoes. Very scarey and I can't believe I stayed.

I mentioned to a social worker where I was staying and he said "Oh they do more then marijuanna at that complex." He used to do home visits for small children for high risk families and knew the complex well.

I looked at Windsow on the River. I thought it they were OK but was told they don't do short term leasing.

What company did you go with? When were you there? I was there from Aug to Nov 06.

I was there from 7/07-11/07, with RN Network. Going back this June with the same company.
