What is a Bailer shift?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Does anyone know how this works? I had a friend suggest this to me after I take my CNA course. She said that it would be an easier schedule for me so I could to go to school during the week for my prereqs till RN school.

Has anyone had any experience working this shift and what were your hrs.

Thanks,T:)

I could be totally off here... but my understanding is that a Baylor shift / schedule is one where you work two 12-hour shifts on the weekend and one 8-hour shift during the week (total of 32 hours). In exchange for working weekends, Baylor employees are usually paid for a 40-hour week, despite working less hours.

the baylor program at my hospital is for licensed nurses only (we only hire RN's so it is for RN's only) the CNA's arn't eligable...

we work 3 12 hour shifts and get paid 4 extra hours a week and that ammounts to 8 free paid hours a pay peroid.. i love it because it is practally a free shift a pay peroid... i also get $2.00 more an hour because i work weekend days...so it really helps ...

Yeah, I just recently read that in regards to RN's. The lady I spoke with works in LTC and mentioned that she put people on this shift who were CNA's while they went to school for RN. I guess it depends on the area and such. I was curious if bailer shift was an actual set weekend schedule and such. Or if it flipped from day to night.

Thanks

I work Baylor at my facility. My shift is Friday/ Saturday 7p to 7a. So I work 2 12 hour shifts and I get paid for 32 hours instead of just 24. It works great while I'm in school. I also pick up an additional 8 hours a week so I can be considered full time and get the health insurance.

your schedule would be so awesome for me. I would do anything to have that one while I went to school. Even though I would be working weekends, compared to my current swing schedule I would see my family and be able to attend class and possibly go to Mass on Sundays.:)

what hours do you normally take for your other 8?

In my facility, we allow both CNAs and nurses to work in our Baylor program. The program is two 12s (sat/sun) with a 30% Baylor differential. Staff working Baylor may choose to pick up an additional 8 hour shift during the week in order to work full time, however that shift is at the base rate, plus whatever shift differential applies. It's a great program for staff who are in school, or who have childcare issues.

In fact, I worked a modified Baylor program as an EMT in the ER while going to nursing school (2-16s and an 8). Good luck!

BTW--it's called the "Baylor" program because, I believe, it was invented at Baylor in Texas.

I'm glad you clarified the word "Baylor" because everytime I did a google search for "bailer" positions/shift I would get results on people who work a cardboard bailor in manufacturing jobs :D
