WGU Background Check - How Long Does It Take?

  • Expert

I didn't realize WGU required a background check through American Databank until today, so I created an account with them, submitted the required information and paid the $42 fee online with a credit card.

How long does it take for the school to receive the results of the background check? If I had read more carefully, I would have gotten the ball rolling on this background check nearly a month ago when I first applied to WGU.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light. I'm in Texas if it matters. ?

Mine took approx 3-4 business days to process. It allows you to login and check the status. Mine said "processing" for several days before it said "completed." My enrollment counselor told me that WGU usually gets the report forwarded to them a week after.

Thanks. This was helpful!

Less than a week and the company emailed me a copy of the results.

Your response is reassuring. I hope my background check comes back as quickly as yours did because I am still hopeful for a May 1st start date.

Commuter, I hope your background check comes back soon. Is everything else done so you are ready. Hoping you are joining us with a May 1 start date.

A couple more items are pending. . .I signed the master promissory note and financial aid entrance counseling over the weekend, but the dollar amount on the MPN was $0.00, so something might not be right. My enrollment counselor cannot do the intake interview until everything is received.

Generally speaking your tuition amounts aren't set until you have done the intake interview and gone through the Education Without Boundaries mini-course. Once that is set up and you are assigned a mentor tuition will be set. Hope this helps and welcome aboard! I am ridiculously excited that a fellow Texan I "know" pretty well from this board is joining up with us. :)

Is the background check for the RN to BSN or the pre-licensure? (I had someone ask me this a while ago)

In my case, it's for the RN-to-BSN program.

The dollar amt on my MPN was 0 also. After my intake interview I recieved my award letter that showed my fin aid offering. It sounds like the background check is all you are waiting for so hopefully you should be fine.

UPDATE: The results of my background check were emailed to me this afternoon, so this item is completed and out of the way. I am so excited about possibly starting on May 1st!
