Anyone have any experience with Western Psych in Pittsburgh? What can you tell me? Please PM me if you wish. Thanks.

My daughter is a junior at Pitt, and works at WPIC as a student nursing assistant. They can't seem to keep RNs there, lots of mandation/short staffing, but that seems to be the norm for a UPMC facility.

Yes, I see where the nurses went out on strike in 2004. It doesn't sound like there was much of a gain by the union.

Could anyone please give me an idea of what the pay per hour is?

When I interviewed there back in Jan, RN starting salary was $17/hr. They pay them $2/hr less than the other UPMC facilities. However, if you do have experience as CNA, EMT, etc, your rate will be prorated.

The interviews went fine, and I was offered the job. I did not accept it, because I end it up deciding I wanted medical experience. I may still do psych at some point in the future. They tried to tell me that I would get medical experience with IV fluids every now and then, insulin, etc, but I want more experience than that. I ended up accepting a job at Childrens, whre I still get plenty of psych experience, plus medical. :)
