Weekends, NOCs? Ya!

One of the things that I love about being a nurse is the abilty to work weekends and NOCs. For me a perfect schedual would be 12 hour shifts Fri, Sat & Sun night. I love to work holidays (assuming there is better pay for them). My current job (ICU) seems determined to keep me on 8 hour shifts Mon-Fri. I HATE it! (love the job, hate the schedual). I am so sick of everybody telling me how lucky I am to be working weekdays on day shift. I have been told that in March I can go to 12 hour rotating NOCs/Days every third weekend (so far they have always kept their word).

I am kicking myself for not making this clear up front. I just assumed that becuase every nurse manager I ever worked for was thrilled with my prefered schedual that all nurse managers would be.

I would quit but I work with a great team of nurses and Docs.

Just Venting, Thanks for reading.

*** I AM tempted. I grew up in Merlin Oregon (Just north of Grants Pass on I-5) and loved it. Wisconsin is great but the culture is pretty different here and I have been considering moving back to the west. Only problem is all the rich people from Ca have moved to Oregon and are trying hard to turn it into "California North."

What do exerienced RNs make in your area and what part of the state do you live in?

I am working in Hillsboro (west of Portland), and making 30.00ish med/surge ortho and float (benifits are BEYOND awesome!!!!!!!). The hospital is awesome (except the ED which needs some decent management..LOL!), and is very nurse oriented! Smaller community hospital with a large clientel...so we keep on growing but stay a community hospital! I love it!!!!!!!!!

I know Merlin...4th generation Oregonian here...nice place actually, vacationed there for a week with a friends relative years and years ago.
