We got into the CLC Nursing program...now what

OK, we got in, but now what? I am a detail orientated person and I want info! :lol2: When can I start picking up things I need? What are those items?

I have really lost it! I went from thinking about getting in to wondering what to do/what to read/what to buy before class starts.

And how big of a backpack do we REALLY need? :uhoh3:

Anybody out there from CLC have any advice? Help me before my family moves out of the house permanently (wait...maybe that would be a good thing:devil:)!

Thanks Colleen!! I stopped by Monday and nothing was there.

I want to go for Section 001 or Section 002. Anyone else with me? The only difference between the two is lab times. I am trying to decide if it sounds better to get it over with at 8:30 - 10:50 or allow myself some extra morning time and go with the 11:30 - 1:50.

My one thought is if some of us get a study group together, and we go with the 11:30 lab, we could use the time before class to get together.

I'll be working through the day and going to school at night, so the study groups won't work for me, but that doesn't mean we can't still discuss here...I'll need you ladies for sure!!! Wish there was someone taking this at night with me!!!

I think I'll be going for Section 005 (M/W/R). Hopefully I'll get that. I'm happy to see that it is local for me!!! It is right down the road from my work, so that works out great!

omg - just rec'd the spring priority registration leaflet in the mail today! registration is just around the corner - nov 19 beginning at 8:00am. then i read at the bottom of the page and it said there is a registration hold on my account! panic sets in and i call admission & records. i was told that there are no holds on my account and there never has been! i was told, "there are no holds that will prevent you from registering for classes." sheesh!

anybody else experience something as nerve racking as this?:uhoh3:

ummm...i didn't get a spring priority registration leaflet in the mail...should i be worried?

did you check your account online? you can see any and all holds you may or may not have on your account. hope this helps!!

I got mine today too.

You can check online also to see if you qualify for priority registration. Just go onto the Self-Serv section and there's a link for it.

I can probably make any of the sections work. We'll have to try to coordinate...

i checked my account online and it said "ineligible plan for financial aid" - whatever that means. i rec'd a scholarship for the one honors ethics class i'm taking, but the last time i applied for financial aid was a couple of years ago, of which i didn't qualify. even though clc told me over the phone that i have no holds, i'm still going to stop by the office tomorrow morning.

priority registration is for those currently taking classes at clc and you get an earlier start than the general public to register. if you are already taking classes and you didn't get a notice, then just make a note of the date when priority registration begins. oh yeah...make sure you have no holds on your account.

I didn't get that either, but we also moved, so it may be held up in the mail. I do have holds on my account, but only for the FACTS payments. They are usually off by the time registration rolls around. I'll check to make sure they are. Weird that it would say you have holds on your account if you don't. I'm going to check out my self service now on the website.

mine has that too. only because i am only taking 1 class that is 3 credit hours and you have to take at least 6 credit hours to qualify. the only reason i am even taking a class this semester is for the priority enrollment...i don't even need this for my degree, but needed it to make sure i get into the class i want!

hello ladies!! i haven't been on in awhile and lots has been discussed. thanks for all the info, ishtart!! wow, i feel so much better, knowing alittle more about what i'm in for.

i am hoping to get into sec 1 or 2 and i would love to start talking about a study group. it doesn't just have to be students from my class, we could work it, so it works for alot of us-so those of you taking nights would be able to join.

we have been talking about rolling backpacks, i have heard by reading other threads, that having the bood debound and rebound by chapters also works, so you'd just have to bring the chapters you need. has anyone heard of that, if it works?

i also have started the immunizations, had my physical and i am just looking at the cpr courses now. the american heart association, does have them at various places around here, it is called bls, basic life support, for healthcare providers. i looked but still have to call, but condell does offer them. collen(perhaps others) we could take it at the same time, and get to know each other in person. just a thought.

thanks again, ladies, for all the info and support.

i'm all for getting together a study group! those of us on this forum who are going for days should try and decide which section we are going for.

i ordered a rolling backpack from ebags.com. i think it should be here today. i'll let you know what i think.

i am a huge lover of having books debound. i did it for a & p and some other classes. kinkos charges about $1.50 to debind and about $1.00 to 3-hole punch. i have a big 3-hole punch at home, so i just do that myself. a few times they have told me no charge on the debind! i love when that happens!!!

i have found a few pros and cons to debinding.

pros:

less bulk/weight

pages opens flat

can add lined paper/notes in between pages

easy to copy a page if needed

cons:

have to spend $ on big 3-hole binder

sometimes i have forgotten to make sure i had the right chapters

the pages may tear easily - if you have a teenage daughter turning the pages

with that said, i plan on debinding most of my books. i also have a palm, so i will be getting any available software instead of the book.

also, in case anyone is wondering, i got my bill from clc for the titres, 2 tb tests, blood work up and first hep c shot. the total is $194.00.

talk to you later!!

hello, everyone!

i'm looking into section 004 - anybody else? anybody else from my neck of the woods? i checked into clc healthcare provider cpr and the next class (early dec) was already filled up by last week. hmmpf...i should've registered for before my letter came in. i called vista emergency services and left a messege on their recording about it and they haven't called me back. today i called my local fire dept and someone is to call me back, too. in the meantime, i finished most of my lab work (only need cbc, ua and 2 & 3 hep b).

a friend of mine (2nd semester program) uses a pda or compact pc. anyone else thinking of using one or know of anyone who does? you can download info as well as have access to microsoft word.

anyway, we're getting close, ladies...everything is just falling into place!

Heather:

Were you at the Health Center this morning?

Diedra

I changed my appointment for shots to December 6 instead of the end of December because I know you have to go like 2 or 3 times, right? To get everything done? And the Nurse said there will be a TON of new Nursing students trying to get it all done the day of Orientation, so I just told her I want it done before that. So, I should be good if I go then, right???

I am so ready to sign up for my class!!! I am praying there are no issues getting into section 005...I'll take 006 if I have to, but 005 is ideal for me (has to be night).

I want to use a PDA...just trying to figure it all out. How easy is it to load software onto it? And what have you all used? Any help in this department would be great!!!

If we could work out a study group for all of us, that would be awesome, but I know most of you are going through the day (I think I will be the only night student), so don't change things just for me!!!

As far as CPR, I have completed mine, but maybe you can call the Nursing Department and they can give you some ideas of where to go. They can give you the phone number of the company they use at CLC and maybe they can tell you some of the other locations that they teach at.

Your right...it's slowly falling into place now!!! YAY US!!!
