We got into the CLC Nursing program...now what

OK, we got in, but now what? I am a detail orientated person and I want info! :lol2: When can I start picking up things I need? What are those items?

I have really lost it! I went from thinking about getting in to wondering what to do/what to read/what to buy before class starts.

And how big of a backpack do we REALLY need? :uhoh3:

Anybody out there from CLC have any advice? Help me before my family moves out of the house permanently (wait...maybe that would be a good thing:devil:)!

i know...i know! i am crazy:uhoh3:, but did anyone notice that for nur 171 there are still openings??

section 1 has 3

section 2 has 7!!

section 5 has 2

what's with that??

i know it seems strange but i'm one of those who waited to enroll because for some reason i thought we did it at orientation. i had a baby last february (i was supposed to start last spring) so i had my hands (and mind) full. then i was looking through my acceptance letter and it stated that i needed to sign up before a certain date or i'd lose my spot. that date was 3 days away!!! luckily i looked at the letter. they do this so if someone is blowing it off they can offer the spot to someone else. about the steth, if you buy one you can use it at clinical or they have one at the site. when you practice at clc you'll use the ones in the lab because they are double ones so someone else can listen too. these are the ones you have to use in the pe at the end of the semester. i'm getting one (for x-mas) for next semester though.

I did notice that as well...maybe there will be a lot of people who decide not to sign up or maybe the didn't send out the second round of letters for the alternates? Not sure!!! I plan on keeping an eye on it...I know I was a freak about making sure I was signed on by 7:45 the day we were able to sign up!!! :lol2:

i am planning on hitting my in-laws up for these gifts. i already sent them a link for rolling backpacks and will be looking into stethescopes/bp cuffs and maybe even shoes and sending them those links. what kind of shoes do you have? you have to have white, right??? i thought that is what i heard.

Yep, I hit up the inlaws, too with requests for gift cards from Amazon and Visa. Found a nice, sturdy rolling bag at Kmart today for $19.99 in the luggage dept. I can't find it to show a link, but it is square-ish with plenty of room, yet not too cumbersome. Of course, thrifty that I am, will wait until they go on sale...surely Kmart has sales off of luggage between now and January.

i just have nb all white walking shoes and they are okay for now. i'll be getting some actual nursing shoes soon. they have to be mostly white with little or no color.

Does the stethoscope have to have a double bell for clinicals? I read on another thread that one school won't let them use that kind. I really want the UltraScope, but it only has one bell, but they work great.

CLCStudent - thanks for all the info you share!!

CLCStudent - are you still taking Micro this summer? I thought I remember seeing that somewhere here. I am planning on taking it too, so maybe we'll be together!

Diedra

diedra, you can use any steth you want for clinicals, but students practice at the clc lab with the double scopes because you have to use those during the end of the semester practical exam (pe). the evaluator listens in on the other one to hear the bp. there is a $40 littman brand scope available to purchase at the clc bookstore and/or amazon. the consensus among my classmates is this one is great to have for clinicals. i'm taking micro this summer because i need it before moving on to 3rd semester. i have a name of a guy to take who only teaches it in the summer. they say he's good.

Diedra, I took Micro last summer. I can fill you in on who my teacher was. She was good, a little quirky perhaps, but good. Very fair. She did an awesome job of ensuring plenty of time for review prior to tests. She would basically tell you everything you needed to be sure to study for the tests. As long as you studied what she told you to, you did well. We had one take home test, and a couple of opportunities for extra credit too.

Micro during the summer is demanding for sure, but doable. Make sure you get with some good lab partners. I was fortunate enough to end up hooking up with 2 girls who had just finished their first year of the Nursing Program. Very helpful!

CLCstudent, thank you for the information about the books, and all the other good info you provide.

I am getting the software from www.skyscape.com - I don't think prices are too bad. You order online and can download it onto the Palm. Or you can have whatever you want to purchase loasded on a disk (the size that fits Palms) and they charge you an additional $25.00 for that. I figure that way, if something happens to break on the Palm I wont lose my software. There may be another place to get it, but from what I hear, most do thru skyscape.

I am gonna wait until I get the list of books we need, or I want and then go from there.

I use my Palm now for keeping track of my A&P grades, volunteering schedule, etc. I also have a few games, for those moments when I am brain dead and need something else do to.

Has anyone decided which Section (days) they are going for? I'd like to go for the same one that I "know" some people.

Question...I have a PalmOne Tungsten, T3...will this work with the software? I am thinking of getting one or two of the softwares now.
