Want to get out of here

Published

i live in tx. me and my husband desperately want to move out of state. preferably out west or in new england area. my question before i apply to jobs do i need to be licensed in that state or can i wait till i have a job. also since i'm under a year i will be applying to gn programs too. by the time most gn programs open up i will have less than a 6 months work experience. i have just started working in a home health pediatrics.

also, what are the best states to move to with a special needs child. he has a trach, g-button, physical delayed, and wheelchair.

thanks

Hey. I have an RN license in MA. I applied to job all over in Jersey and NH and stuff...I got called for interviews in both states. Interviewed in NH...got an offer for the job...then got my license. I wouldn't necessarily get a license before even interviewing. It cost about 150 bucks or more...so if you don't have an interview or a job offer, I wouldn't waste your money. They should know obv if you are offered the job, that you will pursue the license ASAP.

good luck.

PSA healthcare is home health for peds... check their website. If you like what you're doing for a job then it might be a smooth transition to this company. They are always hiring. I also live in MA and see a lot of PSA postings.

I've been thinking about doing home health somewhere. The only problem is I need to be able to get on Medicaid for my son very quickly. At least in a hospital I would get insurance right away. I figure anywhere we go I will have to live there for a month or so to get everything ready for him.

I know in some states it's very easy to get Medicaid for the disable and some it's very hard if you're not dirt poor or at least because I fill out things honestly.

Medicaid is a federally-funded program, isn't it? I would think that if your son is already on Medicaid currently, that a move to another state would not be an issue.

I think you should speak to a social worker about your child. Seems I remember something about automatic coverage if disabled from birth that cannot be denied. You might also call the March of Dimes - a friend of mine did that and they were very helpful. Best of Luck to you.

Xandarosa, you may already have this information, but just in case you don't:

Discusses benefits to disabled children.

I live in Wisconsin. We have what is called Badger care. it's assistance for people with disabilities that need it. What kinda sucks is the amount they get is dependent on what you and your husband make. Wisconsin has beautiful spring, summer and fall. But the winters are nasty if you are not used to them.

It's really hard to pin point what state would be nice for you. i think discussing with a social worker or something similar might be best. you really don't want to move to an area and find it just isnt' working for you.

You might want to look here for info on Massachusetts health insurance plans:

It might not be easy to understand. I think insurance is very complicated. But I volunteer at a free health clinic and the person who helps visitors to the clinic figure out their insurance options always says "children are always covered." Everyone in Massachusetts is supposed to have health insurance and most do; 98% of adults and 99% of children have insurance.

virginia has good resources for parents of disabled children. chkd is in norfolk and has excellent pediatric doctors. does your son receive ssi? if so it should transfer over to whatever state you relocate too. the best thing you can do is ask your sons social worker (if he has one) how to facilitate the services your son needs. and virginia is a compact state with texas as well. but on the downside the cost of living is high here. good luck!!!

p.s.: i have been dreaming of moving to texas for quite awhile. how is the job market there for lpns?

we used to be on ssi but know my husband makes to much. because my son is under 18 they go through our income. i hate ssi; it's a joke. one year we made about $12,000 but because ssi goes by your monthly income they said we owe then about $2,000 back! thank god after a 3 year wait, my son is on medical dependent children's program. it only takes into account my son's income which of course is nothing. people wonder why people stay on wellfare; it's because you can't afford to get off!

my husband used to live in boston and would love to go back. i did think that would be a easy to get in on medicaid but probably hard for me to find a job. we need to stay somewhere near a good children's hospital so going to very rural areas is not an option. i lived in colorado for a months and would love to go back there. it just felt like home. today, i found a job opening for a gn postions. crossing my fingers and praying.

roser13-it is federal funded but the states make the rules. some states if you have a disable child you automatically get medicaid and other places you have to be under a certan income. in texas it's not that easy. when we thought we were going to lose medicaid, i actually had multiple nurses tell me to get divorce so i could qualify.

nicenurselpn-i don't know about hospitals but homehealth is always hiring and there are alot of ltc faulities here.

sorry, for all spelling and grammer mistakes.
