What is a compass? How may apply vs. how many get in? :) tks.

Compass is a basic college entrance/placement exam. Our program accepts between 100 - 120 2x a year.

The CC I am attending does not have a wait list. If you don't get accepted you have to re-apply every year!!! The only pre-reqs you technically have to have are A&P I and II (there are a slew of others but they do not have to be done before you apply). There are typically 400 applicants for 150 seats - I've known people who have applied for 3 years and still not made it in. They use a point system based on overall GPA, grades in A&P I, II, and microbiology, total number of credits earned, and NET test score.

Just a warning for those applying to federally funded community colleges. The grades based entrance will be going away. Community colleges are supposed to be phasing it out and replacing it with a lottery system.

Anyway, at th school I go to I got in under the last grade based entrance. Everything now is waitlisted. We have a traditional day program that takes 30 students in the fall and 30 students in the spring. Then we have a fasttrack program that takes 30 students each track - meaning they accept students 3 times a year. So overall the school accepts 150 students a year. You have to apply for both traditional and fasttrack if you want to be considered for both programs and it takes about a semester or two to get in. All requirements must be done ahead of time and you can apply to the program when you are finishing up your last semester of requirements.

Yikes!!! The CC I am speaking of you have to have tons of prereqs...english, psych, soc, life span, AP I, II and III, Micro, chem, math if you dont pass our,bio and you have to take the CNA course and pass the state test all BEFORE you get put on the 2 yr waitlist! I grad. with my BA in psych and didnt want to spend much more on school so I looked into the 2 year program thinking it would be less expensive! Yikes!

There are rumors there that if your GPA is good and you have been at the school for awhile you may get in quicker but there is no system, doesnt seem too fair to me...I just took a few pre reqs there and transferred to the program I am in now...at this rate I will graduated a year before I would have even started my clinicals at the CC!!!

For our ADN we have to have English 1, prob & stats, speech, intro psych and a humanities elective to graduate - but they don't have to been done before you apply. Obviously its much easier if you have them done before - most people take them when they're taking the A&P classes. Oh yeah...and micro isn't actually needed to apply - you do get extra points for it but you actually have until 3rd semester of the nursing program to take it.

My BSN program at a state college never had a wiatlist until last year. I had all my pre-reqs done and the grades to go with them but got wait listed after 80 applyed and only 60 got excepted! I started the program this fall after taking an entire year of pointless classes.

No waiting list at my university, they are actually trying to attract more students due to the nursing shortage over here :)

The only prereqs that you need are maths and english,and a good grade in high school, or if like me you are a mature age student you can do a tertiary prep programme (maths and english, takes 1 semester, really easy) after you pass that you are guarenteed (sp?) a place. No test to enter or anything like that either.

This is to do a Registered Nursing degree, not sure what that is over there, i dont recognise half the letters that you guys use. I know EN, enrolled nurse, and RN, registered nurse.

All prereqs have to be completed before you can submit an application to the nursing program. They accept about 100 people twice a year.I'm not sure how many people apply for the positions, but it is VERY competetive (you just about need a 4.0). When you add up the 3 semesters it takes for prereqs, 6 months from application to starting nursing program, and 2 years once you start... it takes almost 4 years to complete a "two year" degree. And that's if you get accepted the first time you apply! Pretty frustrating. I'm taking my last prereq right now, and will be able to submit an application in January. If I'm accepted, my nursing program will begin in August. If nothing else, this is a lesson in patience and persistance!!

The program I am in now does not have a waitlist. The prereqs are a bachelors degree, AP, Micro, nutrition (although I took a test and passed out), chemistry, biology, english, sociology, psychology...and prob more I cant think of...I had most of them from undergrad, I was a psych major but I ended up having to take AP and Micro..oh and the GRE is a pre req too. But it was the quickest way in and the quickest way out...after spending 4+ years in undergrad I am ready to start working and stop being a poor student!!!
