Hello all....I'm new here and am wondering if there's anyone else out there going crazy while waiting to find out if they've been accepted to a nursing program? I live in Michigan and have applied to Macomb Community College and the cut off for applications was Feb. 15. Not supposed to hear anything for about 1 1/2 - 2 months. In the meantime I am taking A&P, so between that and my two little ones I do keep busy. Our college accepts 120 students with 4 start dates: Aug., Oct., Jan., and March. Last year I believe that over 1000 people applied so it is very competitive, as I'm sure it is everywhere. I'm just so anxious and excited to get started. I'm 33 yrs. old, a wife and mother of two. This is something I have wanted to do since graduating from high school and I am so thankful that I now have the opportunity to go for it!!!!

I know how you feel. I'm axiously awaiting my letter too. The deadline for my program was Jan. 15 and I won't hear until probably mid to late april. It's killing me...
I am taking 18 credits this term so I am keeping fairly busy. I don't have kids, but I've got my horses to concentrate on. Once you hear let everyone know how you did. I told work that I will either be bringing in a batch of home made brownies or a box of tissues depending on what I hear...:)
Thanks for your reply...I don't feel so alone!! O.K., 18 credits, horses to care for AND a job??? You will have no problem adjusting the the demands of nursing school!! I will let everyone know if I get accepted and hope you'll do the same............I'm sure you will be baking brownies soon!!!!

Hi and good luck to all of you. I am also waiting for my letter, although not so patiently. Our applications were due on Feb 1st. I then had an interview on the 14th. They said that they like to have everything finished up in a month so I am guessing I'll know sometime around the 1st of March. The wait is killing me, I don't know what I'd do if I had to wait months like some of you. I am taking micro right now, and have two yellow lab puppies. One is 18 weeks, and the other is 22 weeks. So I am keeping busy, but I find it really difficult to concentrate. I had the hardest time studying for my micro test. All I can think about is if I'll get a thick letter, or a thin one.

Welcome, and good luck to you!
I'm taking the NET test March 12th, and and taking my last prereq now. Starting March 21st I'll be taking my 3rd non-nursing required course. Then Summer I, and Summer II, I plan on taking A&P 2, and Microbiology to finish up all the non-nursing courses.
I won't apply until the end of August. That way I'll have all my prereqs and non-nursing courses completed. This will HOPEFULLY help me get in quicker. Our cut-off for the Spring '06 application period is August 31st. Then I should hear something by October.
Fall '05, I'll probably take Chemistry, just in case I have to apply somewhere else. If I do get in, knowing chemistry won't hurt me any. lol
I also thought about substitute teaching and/or hospital volunteer work while I wait for the letter.
Is the NET test the same as the HESI? I had to take the HESI exam last month. My school weighs the test score at 50% and your last 12 credit hrs. GPA at 50% for ranking. I am taking my last pre-req(A & P) right now and I love it. I also finished up my non-nursing classes. Thought it would be easier once I'm in the program to just have to worry about the nursing classes & clinicals. Best of luck to you.

The NET is not the same as the HESI. The NET only has a reading section, and a math section.
We have to make at least 50 points on the reading, and 50 points on the overall math. (I guess there may be 2 math sections???????)
I don't think the score itself helps us any, except that you have to have passed it with at least the required points in order to apply.

Wow I totally know how you feel. Our deadline isn't even until March 1st here but I had my stuff in before January LOL. We should hear by mid April. It's killing me not knowing. I am a single Mom of two boys and going back to school was the best decision I ever made but wow there is so much to do and so much competition. Are you going for an RN or BSN? I wish you the best of luck. I will keep posting and let everyone know either way. Take care and God Bless.

trying to be paitient. I turned in my application three weeks ago and the deadline is March 1. They only take 40 students and said I should know by mid-March. I somehow feel pretty confident, but I sure will feel better when I get that letter. I have all my pre-reqs and after this semester only micro and speech. Sooo Ill have nothing but my nursing to concentrate on. Well, that and my three children 14yrs, 4yrs and 2yrs old. Am I the only one who is feeling spring fever and just plain tired of school? I cannot believe I have accrued 48hrs in 18mths!! I hear the actual nursing classes will be a fresh change of pace from the academics Ive been doing. Everyone here needs to keep this post updated as we all get our YES letters !!

I feel for everyone. I was where you all are a year ago, and again two years ago (didn't get into anything that year).
For those that have had interviews, if I may offer a bit of advice - it would be a great idea to write to your interviewer as a follow-up, telling them how much you enjoyed meeting them, seeing the school, hearing about the program, and know it will be a good fit for the start of your nursing career. I'd even put in something you may have found different at this particular school that you didn't at others (better clinical sites, class choices, or even extra-curricular programs).
I've always written letters like this - it keeps your name somewhat in the "forefront", not that you'd get lost in the shuffle, but it always helps for them to know what you think later on, and how you would fit in, etc.
Good luck to all of you!!

I too am in the wait with everyone! My school the NET had to be done by the end of Dec. They make the picks in Feb. and we are to hear yes or no in March. Well this is going to drive me INSANE!! Today when the mail came I ran out like a mad woman! I keep thinking maybe it will be early! Since I am not normally home at this time I think I scared the poor mailcarrier! I saw an envelope from the school, my heart stopped. I opened it, and........ nothing, it was just a refund check for overpayment. LOL I am so insane that I didn't even get a smile over it! LOL
Confusedasnormal........there's meds for that (hahaha)....I should know, I'v been on them :chuckle. You're not alone, I'v been running to the mailbox every day too and our cut off was Feb. 15!!!! I KNOW that there's no way that my letter will be in the mail this soon, but I still get so anxious when I open the mailbox. Hope you hear soon...let us all know.
