Wait period after applying?

Hey all,

December grad here, started applying to residencies almost immediately after I took/passed the NCLEX in April. I plan to keep casting a wide net in terms of job-hunting... But does anyone have any insight into how long I should wait to hear back regarding an application before giving up on that prospect?

Applications for the units I've been applying to opened up at the beginning of April, and the residencies begin in August. Should I assume I've been passed over, or could they still be pooling candidates before reaching out to people?

Thanks!

Given that there's tons of applicants for these new grad jobs, the waiting period to hear anything either way could easily be weeks.

IMO, you shouldn't stop the job hunt until you have an official job offer in hand. So while you're waiting however long to hear back on a job application, plan to keep applying to and interviewing at other facilities during that time.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it! I figured as much, I think I'm just getting anxious since now I'm competing with December grads AND May ones! But I'll keep at it. Sent in four new applications today, and I'll keep tossing my resume out there til I get a nibble!

Most hospital career websites have a way of checking your application status. Most of my applications were processed within a few weeks, some were closed within a day. If you haven't seen a status change on their website in three weeks, I would call HR. Residencies will take much longer. Once the deadline is passed, they look at all of the candidates and decide a time to start interviews. This may take months. You shouldn't have to worry about May graduates until mid June. That will be the first opportunity they will have to take NCLEX.

Call the nursing recruiter or HR pro and ask when the residency starts and when they start selecting candidates.

I'll bet anything that the residencies you applied for will not start until July or August, thats when they start at my hospital.

In that case, you won't hear anything until at least June, probably July.
