how to wait... patiently

I need some major advice. I am a complete wreck and I have 9 more weeks (actually it's 8 weeks and 6/7) until the letters are sent and I am freaking out. What if... I dont make it!!!!

:crying2: Ok, so how do/did you wait without losing sleep, gaining 50 pounds and being a complete pain in the ***? :crying2:

Hmmm, my first response would be to eat lots of chocolate (that's my cure for everything), but it wouldn't fit your criteria due to potential weight gain.

I will be mailing my application this week and won't know anything until the end of April.

I'm planning on lots of long walks and hot baths. And sorting through closets and drawers. I'm one of those crazies who finds organizing to be therapeutic. Maybe start an indoor herb garden. I've always wanted to do that and probably won't have time for it once I start NS. They say gardening is relaxing, you know. I've set aside a couple of good books to read when I'm not studying. I also plan on making lots of pots of mint tea with toast and jam. So soothing.

And a little chocolate won't hurt.

What about formulating a back up plan? If you don't get in are you going to redo some classes, apply to a different school, get a job to gain experience, go into something completely different? You hate to be negative, but you need to think about some possible alternatives.

I have decided that if I do not get in that I will retake Anatomy or Micro (my 2 B's) over summer session and then reapply in the fall. It is so hard when you have a family relying on you to finish! I wish that it didn't take so long to find out! What the hell are they doing with the applications for 2 months when at our school ALL they look at is GPA. It should be a one week wait if you ask me!

I am thinking that great amounts of chocolates and hot baths are in my future!

I'm sure they know who they want. They never want to make it look like they've made a decision within a few weeks. Schools want to make it appear as though they've agonized over the hundreds of applications they've received. It is very stressful. I'm currently taking Micro and Organic Chem so that's keeping me busy for now. Keep us posted. :)

Oh I am definately with you on the agony of waiting. I applied to several accelerated BSN program and won't hear anything until the sometime in march. I am staying with my parents right now and can't move into a new place until I find out which city I will be attending school in. Such a pain!

I kept myself busy. We also had count down here in the site and basically came in here to "pass time" with those in the same boat. I would try to enjoy it and good luck.

take some classes which may be helpful in the future, such as medical terminology, I finished all pre-nursing classes one year ago, my school uses lottory system. I am still waiting to be selected. I am thing to transfer to a CSU this fall. Try more school, get more opportunities.

Enjoy having a life while you still can! :)

VOlunteer at the nursing home, hospital, daycare, library. Do something, yo uhave two months. If you have other goals, take care of them.

One of my goals before starting school was to be ableto fit into a normal uniform...so for 3 months I ran EVERYDAY. I was so tired from the running and work that I didn;t have time to get worried.

Best WIshes...

i've never been a gal good at waiting, so i don't know that my advice would be good at that, but i *do* know this: there may be one goal, but there are lots of different roads to get there. listen to the stories on these boards - there are many different paths to earning your nursing license. it keeps me sane because i know that even if i am faced with rejection from all my schools - something i hope doesn't happen, either! - it's definitely not the end of the road, not by a long shot. so, even in the worst case scenario, there's still hope. granted, it's not a first choice-type of situation, but it's always possible. if i have to reapply, apply to a different school, or find another path, i'll do it. it may be different and possibly more difficult than my original path-of-least-resistance plan, but i'll do it! :p

ps - loved the running suggestion, katiebell. it makes you feel good, healthy, and keeps that ben & jerry's from doing too much damage when you're waiting for the letters.

Thanks Anna, I'm proud to say that while I am no super model, I can wear a size 10-12 all due to running...

Certainly was a boost to my confidence in school

Hi everyone,

Great advice on keeping busy productively. How about picking up part time work or working more to pay off some debt escpecially if they're credit card debt. I just got hit by my bank with an increase from 5.99 APR to 26% APR even though I've never been late or over the balance. :angryfire Their justifications were that I carried a high balance and was late in the past twelve months on a car payment. I think credit card companies are evil!!! So anyways, sorry to vent about my money problem, but while I'm waiting for the news from the colleges, I'm keeping up with my reading, organizing my house and am determined to pay off my bills before entering the nursing program. I'm sure it will be enough pressure without the extras. Good luck to you guys and I think its so neat to read all the stuff and bits and pieces of your personalities are coming through your many compassionate, insightful, and sometimes downright hilarious comments. :yelclap:
