How do nursing programs wait lists work? Is it by your grades or when you applied?

Yes, a little of both. I encourage all students who wants to be a nurse to finish all prereques before applying to nursing school and try to earn high grades. I know where I live it pretty much based on GPA. I have heard students being placed on a waiting list and being moved up due to their GPA. Some gets in due to all they have to do are the nursing classess. You need to ask an advisor or counselor at the school you want to attend or better yet some other nursing students. Just a thought.

It's going to largely depend on your program. You should check out the individual websites and speak with counselors is possible. For the program I'm starting in the fall, the ranking was 25% TEAS test, 25% A&P I grade, 50% GPA. But everyone that meets the minimum requirements is at least placed on the waiting list and that moves depending on how many students accept their seat and complete the requirements (physical, CPR, registration, etc.) Good luck.

It depends on your school. You will have to ask them because each school can vary. The one I attend is not by grades, but I am applying to another that does take grades into consideration.

At my school it is merit based. All applicants are ranked according to a point system that takes in overall GPA, GPA in just the pre-requisites, the PSB entrance exam and how many pre-req's have been completed with an acceptable grade. Tie breakers are determined by county residency and whether you already have another degree, with favor shown to those who do. Applicants are ranked according to these items and the first 58 students get in. The rest are wait listed according to their rank.
