Yes, it is advantageous to you if you file it early.

Average time is only about four months for the Visa Screen Certificate, once they have received all of the required documents. I would also concentrate on preparing for the NCLRX exam. Especially while everything is fresh in your brain from CGFNS exam preparaion.

It usually will take a few months before you will get Packet 4, after Packet 3 is submitted. You didn't list where you are living, but it takes longer for an appt in Manila because of the number of people trying to work and live in the US>

I am an international student in USA finishing nursing (BSNA) in 2 weeks. Do I need to do the visascreen certificate or I am exempted from it.

You are only exempt from the English exams, you must go thru the rest of the immigration procedures, you are not exempt from those.

Hello. I'm currently applying to NY BON, can I also apply for Visascreen now, even if I don't have an employer yet? Thanks!

Hello. I'm currently applying to NY BON from the Philippines, can I also apply for Visascreen now, even if I don't have an employer yet? Thanks!

Hello people. Lawrence01 posted this thing in the NCLEX-RN forum by mistake and since it hasnt been moved to this forum yet i thought it would be beneficial to all concerned if i reposted it here.

Lawrence found new rules regarding filing of the I-485 Adjusment of status. Before, they allowed RN's to file AOS even without the Visascreen accompanying it. Now USCIS wants it to accompany it, or the 485 is denied outright.

see this link: http://www.rreeves.com/news_article.asp?aid=413

Lawrence, I hope you dont mind...thought i'd make sure it got here ASAP. And thank you.

PS...I hate the fact that USCIS is doing this...they know that Visascreen thing takes 4 months to get! It makes the AOS route even longer than before. I was planning to get my Visascreen in the US.

Currently the ICHP who issues the Visa Screen Certificate is quite fast this days, i applied April 30 and at that time there were only waiting for my IELTS result , i took IELTS April 8 and the result was April 26 the IDP forwarded it last May 2 and i recieved my Visa Screen Certificate on May 23, 2006.

This actually has been the law as was written, they just were not sticking to it. They were accepting applicants/dpcuments without the VSC attached. A big problem has been happening over here, where there have been quite a few nurses unfortunately that have not been able to pass the English exams, therefore their EAD was not renewed. Instead of lleaving the US as they should have, they have moved over to other employers and started the process all over again to give themeselves another year. Immigration has finally wised up to this. And are just doing what they said that they were going to do in the first place.

And if you remember correctly, I have always pushed for all exams to be done before you even come to the US. What happens if NCLEX does not get passed the first time? There are still some states where the wait to retest is 91 days. To come over, then expect to get everything done is akin to playing Russian Riulette and you do not always win.
