Very confussed about courses

I start nursing school in Aug (LPN) and I am confussed about the courses I will be taking. It seems that everyone here is having to take a & p 1 and 2, microbiology etc.
I am also confussed about semesters, how long is a semester.
OH PLEASE HELP!!!

Those who have more prerequisite classes are preparing for RN programs not LPN. Our semesters are about 5 months long.

Foundations of nursing (nursing 101-103)
Anatomy & Physiology with medical terminology (MES 113)
Pharmacology (NUR 37)
Normal life span (PSY 106)
Medical surgical nursing (NUR 196-198)
College Composition 1 (ENG 107)
Microcomputer Applications (CIS 118)
Acute Care Nursing (NUR 226-228)
Nursing Leadership (NUR 232)

Looks like the only thing missing is a nutrition class and chemistry.

Just asking but why are you doing an LPN program? Most of the courses you are taking are classes for a nursing program. You are taking some of the same courses as they are. You will be fininshed with the 1st semester nursing program.

Does it soulnd like I will be learning everything that I need. Im going to medical careers institute not a comm college. Should I have had more prerequisite's? Remember the class is only 1 year long. I'm sure it's probably fine, I'm just worried. I want to make sure I learn everything that I should be learning. (I have never taken any college classes and never took anything in HS that is going to help me in nursing)

556 clinical/lab hours
for a total of 1636 hours, thats a total of 46 credits
I am also confussed about semesters, how long is a semester. My schedule goes by terms, each is 5 weeks long. Ive heard in some states after your 1st semester you can work as a CNA without going to CNA school. But I don't know what will be considered a semester.

But I have since found out that they are for a RN program which I cannot get into anytime soon in my area, so I will be getting my PN out of the way now and hopefully do a bridge to Rn at a later time.

As well as a biology/microbiology/or zoology type class if you were going for an RN, but I'm sure at the LPN level they'd want you to have at least a beginning biology class.

That's actually a good idea. Here is AZ the wait list for RN program is over 2 years long. I have told many people to do the LPN, get nursing experience and just reenter the nursing program at the 3rd semester. Most folks will be done with their RN when the people who waited are just starting or finishing their 1st semester. Meanwhile, you will have your RN, plus the LPN experience!

An advisor at the community college suggested this route to me also when I was changing my major to nursing. It's a quicker means to an the end.

Yep, that's the same thing I was told. Plus its much easier to get into the RN program if you have already taken the PN program at the same school. And theres always the option of your employer paying for you to go back for the bridge program.

I'll be finished with my PN in 1 year, I figure if I get a years experience as a LPN, then jump into the bridge program, I'll still have my RN in 3 1/2 years. Instead of possibilly STILL being on the waiting list.

Now if I could just get all my student loans finalized and out of the way, maybe I could sleep at night. I got turned down for the Pell , which totally SUCKS!

and you'll be using that when?? never met a regular nurse who used chemistry in their job.

Good luck to you. The only thing I would make sure of is the transferability of those courses to RN school. Is there and LPN to RN school in your area that takes those courses as transfers, so when you go on you won't have to take things over.

I'm not familiar with LPN schools, but the coursework you mention seems reasonable. 5 week courses are intense, so best wishes and enjoy the ride.

Just seems to me that you are missing a Chemistry, and biology. Human Biology before Anatomy and Physiology is advisable. Other than that seems ok.
