Vacinne Question

Hello,

I have yet to apply to nursing school, but have begun to plan ahead. I am up to date on all my vaccines (had titers done) with the exception of the hep B vaccine. I am unsure whether the programs I will be applying to require this, however I had an extremely bad reaction to the hep B vaccine with my first dose. My doctor advised against getting it again and has written several medical exemptions for me. Will this be a problem is I get a medical exemption from my doctor?

i'm very selective about which vaccines i give my kids. so when i found out i would "need" the hep b series, i freaked, lol. what i'm going to do is have the titer done first to see if i'm immune because i've had the series about 13 years ago. and if not, i might go ahead and get them because i'll be at risk when in clinicals and working. i know my state and school excepts waivers....so you shouldn't have a problem. here's a state by state list of exemptions.....

In NYS you can either get the vaccine or sign a statement that you are refusing to get it.

What kind of reaction did you have? There is a laundry list of some reactions that may seem severe, but are normal with the vaccine. Most people have none.

Depending on what happened to you...getting the vaccine may still be better than contracting Hep B.

My program doesn't even require Hep A...and I recently went through that series as well.
